I'm new here, but I did a search and nothing came up for this topic.

Last year at a Haunted Hayride that my dads company puts on at their campground, I was tied to a rope and a climbing harness, attached to a tall oak tree. The rope was black, and I had a black hoodie on over the harness, so it was hard to tell how I was hanging there. When the tractor would come by I would jump out at the riders and swing my knife and kick my feet. It was great, and I got alot of people.

But this year I want to take it a step further. I think it would be really cool to build a gallows or something similar so it looks like I am actually hanging and come to life as the riders come by.

I have looked on the web, and eventually got directed here through links and stuff. I would like a blueprint type thing of how to proceed and do this, but i have come up with nothing.

MY IDEAS

I want a platform and something able to support the swinging of a rope. It looks like, because of the way I want to swing, that I willl have to have the platform 2 feet up, and 2- 5 1/2 ft. posts, and a top bar. I would need to put the rope in front of the top bar so I can swing out far enought to get to the tractor. My only problem with that idea is on my swing-back, I will most likely hit the top piece and make the gallows move, and kill the effect. I am a 165 pound 16 year old, so I'll pack some force.

I need some help, I only have about 30 days before it needs to be complete so I can haul it up north to the location. Size is no problem, we have a pickup. Money is not an issue as I can get a good deal on lumber at the hardware store.

Thank you for reading my ranting.

Any ideas and bullsquat welcome.

Most stunt men will not perform a fake hanging, but hey it's your neck.

The harness will be tied on my back, so the rope will be on my back and thanks to duct tape it holds higher so its almost at my shoulders.

It never comes in contact with my neck.

My son is your age and all I can think of to say (besides don't do it) is please BE CAREFUL...I know, typical Mom lecture :)

yes i was going to attempt this same type of stunt and as safe as yu make it theres still that chance of failure. in other words DONT DO IT! What i would do is attempt the hanging in the air part but instead of an actual rope, take the rope and make like a neclace of rope with wire going through it then have it so it looks like the rope continues into the sir but really doesnt. its hard to explain. good luck AND DONT USE A REAL OPE DEVICE ITS TO DANGEROUS AND THIS IS COMING FROM A DANGEROUS TEENAGER! lol

anytime you attempt a hang is very very dangerous!! Stuff can happen very quick, if somthing unexpected happens the marks dont know if it is part of the show or if it is serious, so they assume it is show and dont help. listen to what people on this board are saying, dont do it. It might have worked last year but there are no promise that it will work as smoothly this year. My advice, have a dummy hang, and then when people are focused on the hang, jump out or do another scare to surprise them when they dont expect it. This will be just as scary and when people are focused on what seems to be the focus you hit them where they dont expect it.
