I'm expanding my cemetery this year and wanted to add columns. But, now I'm having second thoughts. My fence is not the wrought iron/pvc type. I was crunched for time a few years back and just made a quick fence out of pickets painted black and wound with twine. I ended up liking the fence so have never changed it. Anyway, now that I want to add columns, I'm not sure how to make them work with the fence. I need some advise on height, overall size, and style. Would it look better to faux them like brick, stone, ??? I know I'm probably obsessing and just need to build some, but you know how we all are on here. :D
Here's a pic that shows the fence, if that helps.

I made mine out of concrete tube forms, but looking at your fence I think those would be too bulky/heavy looking. The more I look at the picture the more I see a garden arch instead of columns. Paint the arch the same as your fence and cover with twine and perhaps add a gate.

A little off topic, but do you have a tutorial on how you did that? I'm planning to do this for next year, with planters on top and trailing ivy.

I agree: a trellis/arch, overgrown with vines, stuffed with critters (mice, snakes, etc.) maybe even hide a motor with offset weight to shake it from time to time. Love the fence BTW.

Here are my columns:

If you are interested in doing something like this just get three 8" diam. tubes, cut one in half, stack on the other two, glue. I then coated with an old sheet dipped in monster mud, painted, then a bit of fleck stone and then clear sealer. They have held up for about four years now. We set them up with three pieces of long rebar, put in the ground at kind of an angle and slip the columns over them so they are sturdy. If you need more details just PM me, but really that's about all there is to it.

I hadn't thought of an arch, but it does seem like that would fit better with the style I've got going. If anyone has pictures of something like that, I'd love to see them. And making it shake would be great.
Widowsbluff: those are pretty impressive columns, and sound fairly simple too.:)

This was the arch I've used for years. http://www.hauntiholik.com/Display2006/slides/DSCN9768.JPG
Get a cheap wedding arch from Michael's and add vines. Try making the arch look old and forgotten.
