I finally got it up!...( no wise cracks):D ...the crank ghost. Just used two heavy duty decorator hooks for hanging plants and some chain. Man, that was much easier than messing around with making a frame. What to do with all those 1X2's?
I stapled up black landscape cloth stuff for the back drop. I can't wait until tonight to see what it looks like in the dark. (I'll post pictures later on tonight)

Photographing the FCG is rough. I tried last year and it turned out just "ok".
I finished re-building my marrionette yesterday, so it no longer looks like it belongs on the defensive line of the Patriots. I'll be putting her up next Saturday, so expect photos out of me as well. :D
I gotta get a new tripod...

Awesome! I'm excited to see your pictures, both of you! ;)
I'm making my first FCG this year, so I'm still pretty enchanted with the idea of it, and I love seeing what everyone else has done.

It really does look great.
the more I see of these, the more I want to build one. Has anybody tried to do one with a rotissery (sp?) motor? I have a rotissery I haven't used in ages, and was thinking about raping the motor for the cause.

Yes it is. Big Lots had nice looking styrofoam skulls, so I picked up a few, they were lighter than the wig head I used at first. Then I used a blucky torso after cutting out the ribs and extra plastic on the forearms topped off with with nice bucky hands. I threaded thin rope through the arms instead of clothes hanger wire. I didnt use cheese cloth, I'm not sure what the stuff is called It looks more like a sheer polyester/nylon? bug screen stuff (I have tons of it left over from our wedding). Under the blacklight it looks more like a hazey aura than cloth.

It turned out great, Hib! I only hope mine looks half as good. :P
Max, I think I remember seeing a how-to for an FCG that runs off of a rotisserie motor on The Monster List. Can't remember how detailed the instructions were, but at least you know it worked for somebody.

As a matter of fact, I DID use a rotisserey motor for my FCG!
It works like a charm..a Farberware, with an extra outlet plug which I use for my blacklight.
It moves more slowly than a Dayton, but I think it looks better that way, IMHO.

I used a wiper motor with a DC motor control kit. Not the best way to go in my opinion. I have mine turned down as slow as it can go without stalling the motor.the thing has a decent sized counter balance. It could still stand to go a little slower in my opinion. so the rotisserie motor might be something to consider.
Thanks guys, for the compliments.

awesome!!.....thanks for posting that Dr. Morbius, I'm definately going to have to build one now.
I'm going to be until next year catching up with all the posts I didn't have time to read or reply to, lol.
It's nice for sure Hib, good job!
I still haven't been bitten by the FCG bug, but the mechanics of it intrigue me enough, that I'll probably make the mechanics of one this year, and let Black Cat have the fun of making the ghost.

I think you won't regret it, vlad..It only took me about an hour and a half to cut and drill the falt stock..bolting it together took no time, and it's been working for three years now!
Also, don't forget, you can use the mech for other things besides ghosts..Spider legs can be made to move independently, and skeletons can be made to dance!(MOnster link site..I've seen them, they look GooooD!)
It's a fun project, that can be as simple or complicated as you want to make it.
