My plan for 2006 is to build the Grim Organist.
I have found the conceptual plans at phantasmachanics
http://phantasmechanics.com/grimorg.html
and Baron Von Riptopen
http://phantasmechanics.com/tomgrim/index.html
Is anyone aware of any other plans on the net?
Question is has anyone here done this kind of prop?
If so can you share any information?
I plan on taking a lot of pictures of the build and hopefully making a walkthrough of the build process.
gotta get to work now only 364 days left

Never built one but would love to try and tackle it someday.

I know it relies on using a Peppers ghost illusion..If you do this, please let me know how it goes! I am very interested in building a full size peppers ghost!

it doesn't have to. If you want to build the prop a nice costume and head on the grim organist and you can have it (the player) in full view I think. Honestly if I were doing pepper's I'd just video tape a guy playing the organ dressed the way I liked and rent a digitial projector for the night to project on the glass (Because digi projectors are like 4 grand :/) in my brain it's easier than building the grim organist and hiding him for the sole purpose of catching his ghost on some glass.

Hi Krough, I am going to be doing an Organist this year also. I chose to use Brent Ross of Devious Conconctions plans. I have started the project but because of a health issue with my brother at the moment it is on hold. I hope to have some pics up on my web site in the next month. Good luck with your project and please keep us posted. :jol:

BIG problem with that idea..Shining a direct light onto glass will shine the image THROUGH it and bounce off whatever is behind the glass. The illusion only works with an indirect lightsource reflected first off the object then onto the glass. A TV works because it isn't a direct light source, which is why your eyes dont hurt from watching it.

You're quite right. However, you can still do a pepper's with a projected image rather than a 3D prop though. The huge downside to this though is that the ghost will appear flat. The animatronic has the virtue of looking competely 3D.

You'd have to project the image on something like a sheet or white screen first, then have the glass angled to veiw THAT.
