Very close to the book indeed but compleat crap... The best way to make a movie out of this book would be to follow the the Jeff waynes version of the book...

Also I noticed they have the DVD boxset for the old War of the worlds TV show, trying to get more money from the hype and excitment of Speilburgs movie.
