I was working backstage on a dance show a while back, and they were using this thin cellophane type plastic that was mirrored. It acted as a 2-way mirror, as light on the opposite side allowed the kids to see through it.

I'm thinking I could use it for my Imagineerieing Magic Mirror, such that the surface would appear to be a mirror, except where the face on the computer screen shines through.

Does anyone know where I can buy this stuff?

you can get it at a glass tinting shop or some home repair centers have it

VERY cool. My soon-to-be stepson wants to be Cobra Commander one year for Halloween, and I was going nuts trying to figure out how to make the helmet. Because, of course, he doesn't want to wear the cloth mask that CC sometimes wears...

Mr. Chicken, go to Lowes and they have "privacy film" in the window section. You can get a roll of Gila Privacy Film for little cost. I used it for my Magic Mirror effect I did. Make sure to have someone help you, because once this stuff sticks or gets a wrinkle or crease it is done.

Mr Chicken this stuff cost a little more. But it is fairly strong. It is used for fun house mirrors. That is what I bought it for. but it works really good for the magic mirror.

The Watcher, the product sounds interesting but my computer is reporting that link to be an attack site.

Great topic, Mr. Chicken. Please post what you find out, as I had the same interest in doing this also, instead of using a scrim. I'd seen it done once on YouTube:

It'd also be versatile as you could reuse the mirror and substitute the ImaginEERIEing monitor set-up for a haunted picture that fades in and out as lights behind the 2-way mirror are turned on.

Mr. Chicken,

I built a Magic Mirror a couple of years ago. I used tinted Plexiglas and it worked out very well. I had it custom cut at Tap Plastics to fit a mirror frame that I bought at Michael's Arts & Crafts.

I like using this stuff because once you have it mounted in your frame you can hit it with a heat gun and all the wrinkles shrink out of it making it look nice and smooth:

Unfortunately it's kind of expen$ive.
