Oh yes it may be July but when I picked up a trunk for free, what did my thoughts turn to.... but a Halloween decoration!

I need some inspiration.

Do I pile up fake gold coins and put an animated dead pirate skeleton in it? Do I have ghouls rising from it.

I need some ideas!!! It's a basic square trunk, heavy as heck. The other person picking through these lovely peoples yard sale left overs told me it was a very good and antique truck... though it's been painted white. The detailing on it is beat up... but to me, that's a good sign of a halloween prop!

Help!

I have the same question. My inlaws brought a trunk to my house that they think is really nice and Im just thinking of how its coming out of my daughters room and going to be a prop. I do not do the pirate theme so I need another plan.

I picked up one last year and was planning on making a monster in box, but never got around to it. There are a couple different ways to make a MIB on the Monsterlist (http://www.halloweenmonsterlist.info/)

Yea I like that sight. Actually my wife just tried to get me to buy a shoe polisher and now Im regreting not getting it. I could strap something on the ends and just let it sling them around and bang the sides. The polisher was $5.00 and the the PIR is all I would have in the prop so its a good scare for little money.

Persuming the chest is something like the one in Bradbaum's photos....I'd put it on it's side open to the viewer. Inside, I'd put an evil looking doll with a few victorian looking (frilly dresses) clothes drug out. With that doll (or child) chewing on a leg, or pieces of other dolls.

But I wouldn't over due the gore as I've seen done so often. I think that takes away from the creepy affect. Pale, zombie like...sort of like Dead Debbie.

wow, great ideas everyone! I'm liking the doll one. I have to find my camera and post a picture of the trunk.

Oooo ya know how trunks used to open on it's side and like a closet bar would come out with clothes on it... what if the doll is inside being gory and hanging from that bar would be doll parts... like a doll meat locker!!!!

ScarySuzie,
Disneyland did an awesome thing, they turned Tom Sawyer Island into Pirate Lair, and they have a pirate chest in which a pirate ghost pops up from the chest and tells the guests "Beware, this is MY gold!" They basically did a Pepper's Ghost for that. You can try that. Go to 4:58 and you can see a cool trick they did.

I have a trunk and put it in my bedroom theme. I had the lid open and put it at the end of the bed. I made a frame on the bottom of the trunk, with an opening at the back so I could slip in and out of and I jumped out at the guests when they approached. Scared the crap out of them everytime. They expected the body in the bed to jump out, not anything in the trunk.

Below is a pic. Not a great one but you get the idea.
