It's back to Trishaanne's house for August.
Spoke to Pattie this morning and August 15th is the next make and take. Hope everyone can make it.
Same thing goes for food and drink. Everyone please bring what you want to drink and also provide a covered dish for our late afternoon/dinner feast.
Not sure what the project is this month but maybe we can finish up some past projects and everyone bring your own supplies.

I know there was talk of making a massager project. I've made a few zombie ground breaker type prop using these and using duct tape bodies. Most of that can all be done in one day if we get started right away. If so, I have a mannequin and dress maker dummy to use to make the bodies if anyone is interested. Just bring an old shirt that you can cut up and a roll or two of duct tape. Just a suggestion.

I've marked it on my calendar - so that means I HAVE to come. Plus, I've been itchin to do a massager project.

Are we definitely going to be working on massager projects? If so, does anyone need me to hit the flea market to look for a massager for them?

I'm still looking for a massager. I'm hoping I can find one this weekend. I've been looking on craigslist, but most want $30 and I want to find one for cheaper. If you can keep an eye out and let me know. You have my cell phone number so give me a call if you find one...please! Thanks!

OK....some of you may know that I saw an ad on craigslist for free foam, answered it and found out it was a fellow haunter getting out of Halloween for a bit due to home renovations, a move, etc. Anyway, she gave me her columns, some gargoyles, a cemetery sign, etc.
Well, she also has decided that she is going to empty her attic and send all of her stuff here to the NJ Haunters, hopefully before the next meeting. She said you can just go through whatever she sends and take what you want. I'll be talking to her when she gets back from vacation to set up a time to go pick everything up. I know she said she has foggers, paint, lights, etc. She was going to try to sell it but doesn't want to be bothered having to try to deal with no shows, etc. I'm thinking that if the stuff is any good, we all donate a little to her for her stuff, so she's not taking a total hit. Just a thought. She plans on joining us for a meeting or two, not to work on more props but to just hang out with us, for a "haunters fix".
If this is acceptable with everyone, I'll set everything up downstairs and you can go through everything once y'all get here. I guess I'll have to do like on yardsales and make it "no early birds"...LOL. Anyway, just trying to get some feedback to see if this is of any interest to you guys. If not, I won't bother going to grab it all....since you know that storage is at a premium here..hehehe.

I would be my pleasure helping out a fellow haunter get rid of unwanted props - lol. I like your idea Pattie, but if it gets to be too much of pain in the butt for you getting the stuff, etc - then I totally understand if you'd rather not. Thanks.

I'm goin to put this on the merchandise watch page but for us nj people I got something special. First off I just walked out of dollar tree and picked up some nice body parts for a dollar each there. Ok for the nj special. My dollar tree is on the clifton/bloomfield border. I was asking them what other halloween items they are bringing in. What he told me almost made me scream. They are doing construction to an entire floor just for Halloween. They are going to have a huge selection and for a dollar, you can not beat that. If anyone wants to check it out when they open the floor and need directions just let me know.

07-28-2009, 08:58 PM
Our dollar tree has the bag of skulls, the bones, the tombstones, and a few other things out. From what I was told, ours isn't getting too much more "good" stuff. Guess I'll have to try the other one, or take a drive up by you.n Thanks for the heads up.
If you need help transporting the stuff call.

Ok I know we have the massager project coming up and I am looking forward to it. I was wandering if we could maybe do life casting in one of the upcoming meetings after we finish the massager project. It looks so cool and realistic. Does anyone in the group know how to do this? I will even be the test subject if no one else wants to volunteer. If I am the test subject than someone will have to video tape the process so I know what to do when I have to try it. Anyway does this sound like something that the group would like to try? Check out the life casting thread just posted on the forum from Denhaunt.

I'd be willing to give it a try. I have a facecast of Peanut hanging on my tree, so having some more realistic faces would be cool.

Just wanted to let you know that if you want to cool off at the end of, or during your project, bring a bathing suit AND A TOWEL and feel free to jump in the pool. Just no throwing anyone in this time.....hubby worries too much about someone getting hurt and liability and all that crap, and NO SPILLING DRINKS IN THE POOL!!!!! :p

I have a massager already and the pvc pipes. Pattie if you need help moving the props from that persons house back to yours before the next meeting I can drive down to help. I can fit a bunch in the car with the seats down. Ken and I will also be working on a project that we have been talking about.

I have a great phobia of bodies of water such as pools lakes rivers and oceans so ill be as far away from the pool as I can get. I have not been able to contact the craigslist ad for the massager. Does anyone else know where I can pick one up in case the ad is gone? What else do we need as far as materials for the project? I am so glad we learned the hands last time. I have made a few more since. I have also been coating the mouth on the ghoul with lots of latex. All that is left is LED's and Great Stuffing the skull and shoulder. The tubing is connected and everything is set except those two things. It looks great and works great. I tested it and that baby flows like a champ. Thank you Vlad for all the help. Its gonna look great in my haunt.

It's looking real good for us to be able to make it. I'll probably be getting my port-a-cath put in that week - but it's just a minor thing and wouldn't stop me from coming. If everything else goes as planned - chemo will start on the 25th - so it's looking like the 15th is going to be perfect. Can't wait to see everyone - I sure miss you.
That's good news, we miss you you too!

Yeppie I'm glad to hear that Elaine, Ralph and Jeff will be able to make it. :) Anyone hear from slightlymad? So other than the massager, what else do we need to bring? Are we all going to make the same groundbreakder??? Also I should have the hangman padded and done except for the motor. Should I bring that other computer power pack that I found at the garage sale to see if it will power the wiper motor? It sounds like Vlad and hpropman will be busy this make and take, so should I wait until next meeting to work on that?

I don't know that we're all making the same thing. I need another zombie, which is what I had last year with my massager. I'm making mine from a duct tape body, like I did before. If that's what you want to use, just bring an old shirt and a roll or two of duct tape and a wig head. Then again, maybe I've been doing it wrong for the past few years and someone else has better suggestions..lol.
As for Jay, I spoke to him and he said he would be here.

Looks we will need for this guy:
4 - Tees
6 - 90 elbows
pool noodles
Plastic pipe hanging tape
the massager
a chair
some bungee cords to attach the prop to the chair
A wig head with mask
I have a ton of 3/4 tees and short pieces of 3/4 PVC pipe (in the 20 inch range). I do not think that I have a lot of elbows Sharon so I would pick up some 3/4 elbows and a length of 3/4 pipe (10 foot - they can cut it down for you). also pick up a roll of plastic pipe hanging strap (it looks like a roll of tape with holes in it) I saw it on the pegboard in the plumbing section at depot. I have the pipe cutter so do not buy one. I would also pick up a package of #8 by 3/4 sheet metal screws to secure the pipe connections. I may have some I have to look. The mask that they have in the video might be made with a hockey mask with the eyes cut off with some leather straps. I also found this mask:

08-06-2009, 10:21 PM
Thanks Joe. I actually have the mask and the outfit. I'm going to make the foam head prior to the meeting. As for the bungee cords couldn't I just put the massager on a plywood mount and screw it to the chair? I want to try to get the bottom half of the body done before the meeting, so that will just leave me with the top half that I will have to mount to the massager. I figure if I can get some of this project done a little before than I will have time to work on my hangman. I really want to get the hangman done, because I really only have two more months to finish it if I don't get it done this meeting. Ok thanks again for the list I will try to get all the items on it.

08-06-2009, 10:44 PM
OK sounds good. I thought we finished the hang man. What else do we have to do to him. Are we going to work on the Gallows?
Joiseygal
08-06-2009, 11:10 PM
No gallows I'm hanging him from the tree. We tried hooking up the motor, but the power unit failed. I have a computer power supply I got from a garage sale so I hope that does the job. I also need to get long wire so I don't have to climb the tree each time I have to get the prop going.

The wall warts Joe brought to the July MnT should work for a power source. I used them for my wiper motor project.

Joe do you have any more wall warts left? I forgot to grab one at the last meeting. :(

08-07-2009, 10:18 AM
It is the same ones that we used to test at your house. They are only 500ma (1/2 amp). Some wiper motors require a lot more current than that (can be as much as 3 or 4 amps depending on what they are moving). They typically use 1 to 2 amps. If you draw too much current from the adapters the will heat up and will probably fail prematurely. I have a ton of them but I would be careful about using them for wiper motors. I will bring you a computer power supply to the next meeting. you can also use something like this:

John, depending on the project you'll be working on, you may not need a chair. For a ground breaker zombie, or even a standing one, no chairs are needed, unless your zombie is lazy and needs to sit down in between attacking victims...:zombie: If you want to make a light weight ground breaker, bring a few rolls of duct tape and an old shirt that you can cut up.

At the risk of jinxing it Debbie and I are planning to come down this time. I have a question for you all I have 3 marble slabs that are tombstone size and heavy, Used for a weigh table like here
http://blair.thomasnet.com/viewitems/tables-desks-workstations/extra-heavy-duty-marble-balance-table?&forward=1
I don't know if I'll ever use them and dont wat to see them go to waste, I picture setting one up at a haunt entrance to establish realism. I cant say how to stand one up so it wont fall over. Did i mention they are heavy. anyway if anybody wants one or all three whatever Ill bring them down but loading one into a trunk would be tricky . I don't think a car can carry all three they are heavy and unloading alone well did i mention heavy.

I've got plenty of chairs Joe, but thanks for the offer. I think our biggest was our haunters weekend in April 2008, but that doesn't really count. I think the only ones missing that have come in the past are Nixie, Eldridge and Jen and her sister. The meeting they showed up was pretty big too. Can't wait to see everyone. Since we have newbies coming I guess i have to clean my house and beg my son to cut the grass!!!

Wow big crowd this make and take. The weather looks like it's gonna hold up for us as well.
I'm bringing tons of corn on the cob and making the fixings for Nacho's. I'm also going to my Dad's to pick Cucumbers to bring down.
If I've counted right we have 18 coming. I know Devin is only coming for a short time (10-2) as he is pretty booked this weekend with other obligations

I decided I'm making chicken with a teriyaki/honey glaze. Maybe I'll pick up some hot dogs for lunch, just so noone is drinking all day on a completely empty stomach. I received a PM from the new Karen, and she mentioned possibly bringing a crock pot of chili. Wow...I LOVE guests that bring food. :p
I'm so glad y'all decided to make this a covered dish meeting....I'd have to go get a real job just to feed ya...LOL.
OK, the forum has about 600 active members, if I can get them on a schedule to call Pattie at regular intervals...........................
Yes Sharon, for Gods sake bring the hangman so we can finish it already, lol. I have the rope for the noose.
Joe, bringing electrical equipment just in case????
Yes Pattie, we'll set up the carport. Devon and I are each bringing step ladders. Hee hee, ladders............................
Welcome to the forum and the group Karen!
Welcome to the forum and the group uncledeathy!
Yes Joe, I see Devon at work all the time, he's a customer. He's got a job further down in south Jersey, that starts at 8. He should be there by 10:30. Romella can't make this trip. He picked up a load of male solderless connectors for us I'll be bringing, and he'll be working on a moving pirate in a crows nest.
Joe, I got the part we needed for the project.
Noah, what the hell are you doing???
At the moment I'm leaning towards being down there at 9 when the flea market opens, then heading to Patties after a quick run thru.Arriving at Patties about 10:30. Anyone else interested in going?
No, I don't have the duct tape, I had to go out and buy a roll last week myself. Sharon probably embedded it into a pile of great stuff.
John, wake up, lol. How many links to the massager do they have to send you, heehee. If you can't find one bring down the drinking prop to finish.
Everyone remember to bring something for dinner. Single guys at least stop at the Quick Chick down the street and get a dessert or something. (say hi to Pattie while you're there).
Dig and Debbie, awesome, just get your butts down there. It's been too long since we've seen you.
Elaine (hugs) and Ralph (bigger hugs) It just wouldn't be a make and take without you.
Vlad regrets to announce that he's used up all of his best behavior over the last several make and takes and will be leaving it home to rest this time...........................

I'm glad you got home safely, unfortunately I got a text from Donna telling me they got a flat tire on the way home. I hope Karen touches base this morning to let us know everything went alright.
Thanks everyone that helped me with the my hangman! Especially Ken, Joe and Ralph. I just have to add hands, feet and knee caps. When I make the adjustments I will post video on the forum. The massage projects were fun and I got my project half way done. I will also finish that project in the next few days and post pictures. I want to thank Elaine and Ralph for finding the massager and bringing it down for me to use. Thanks so much!
Also the food was awesome as always. I got yelled at for leaving Long Beach early, but I wouldn't miss a meeting unless it wasn't physically possible to come. So I guess you guys are stuck with me! As for the new people it was very nice meeting you. I really hope Karen and Dave will make it to another meeting they are very nice. Joe your daughter is very nice and creative, so I hope you consider bringing her to the Zombie walk. Oh and thank you Karen for the plants I will be making a home for them later on today. :)

Glad you enjoyed yourself....that's how we get all our "victims"...lol. We are nice to them the first time or two, till they are addicted to us, and then all gloves are off. You are no longer a guest, you no longer get waited on, you'll have to get your own food, own drinks...at least that's the way I'm told it's supposed to go. I don't think I can ever let anyone actually do that...but I pretend to try. Glad the little one is having so much fun with the "monster" Maybe you can duct tape her and then let her dress it in some of her old clothes. Then she'll really have the bug! I'll post our available dates for September when I can look at the calendar.

We got home last night some 4 hours after leaving the make and take. Complete whitewall tire blowout. Nothing better than calling AAA and not knowing what town your in. Two calls later to AAA and finally giving directions once again to where we were and flagging down the tow truck driver.
Had to call my Dad to come rescue Deathinthereaper (Donna) since AAA can only pick up two people and the vehicle. Had to have the van towed home as no one has these Tires available in the middle of night.
Called a few places this morning and found one place who had 1 tire in stock so off I went this morning half asleep.
It was a great Make and Take. Uncledeathy and Karen it was nice to meet you.

Well, it's something we wanted to do for a while, but never had the time to do. I can't even get most of the stuff done I had planned for this year due to severe time constraints. Well, they are making us one. Not sure why....but we are extremely grateful. I've always said haunters are the nicest people. Sorry It was not me there was a lot of things in the burgers but oregano was not one of them. BTW who made the chile I need to get that recipe. Here is the burger recipe.
Chop one whole scallion both white and green. In a large bowl drop a few scallions in the bowl a pinch of salt and some pepper. Rip small chucks of the chop meat and layer them in the bowl (about 1/3 of the meat) dust the top of the meat with all the spices and the scallions. Repeat 2 more times. splash a few squirts of the Worcestershire sauce into the meat. Toss only enough to combine all the ingredients (it is important that you do not overwork the meat it will make the burgers tough) grab handfulls of the mixture and form into patties (remember they will shrink 20% on the grill so make them bigger than you think they should be) Heat the grill and then lower temp to medium to medium low depending on your grill. Place them on the hot grate. Listen to the sizzle but do not touch them (hamburgers should only be flipped once so don't mess with them of press them down with the spatula). close the lid and let them cook for 5 or 6 minutes. check them if you see a lot of smoke the dripping fat may have caught fire. Flip them over and cook for 5 min more or so then top with swiss and provolone cheese melt the cheese and remove from the grill. (internal temp should be 155 - 160 if you have a thermometer)
2 - 3 pound of 20% fat ground chuck
Kosher or sea salt
fresh ground black pepper
onion powder
garlic power
McCormick hamburger spice blend
Cavendar's Greek spice blend (you can find it at the super market)
scallions
Worcestershire sauce
