Making LED spots is easy and fun to do. The parts (LEDs, resistors, battery holders/clips) are available at places like All Electronics. Get the brightest LEDs offered in the color of your choice. Good deals on really bright LEDs can be found on eBay pretty much all the time, but you usually need to buy at least 100. Avoid Radio Shack - their prices are very high and their LEDs are very dim. Here's a nice how-to for making spots:

That's a good link, thank you Otaku. I haven't figured out what I am going to do as far as lighting goes this year.

Yeah, Jason hit the nail on the head with that how-to, alright. The ease of building those spots makes me want to go get the parts right now, and the simplicity of using just one super bright LED is a plus. I'll be raiding Home Depot this weekend for PVC pipe and connectors, so I may have to grab enough parts for a few of those spots. I already know where to use them.

Agreed on Radio Shack w/ 1 exception...UV leds(very bright, don't look@them bcuz they will kill your eyes). By the time you add in S+H you will usually break even w/tax included. Unless your making a bulk order(read that @ 50-100 pcs. per color. Get a butane powered soldering iron(about $25.00),some SN-62 solder ($5.00-$7.00),a can of butane(triple filtered ONLY) and an old kitchen sponge(wet but not soaked) to clean your iron. And b careful as it's quite easy to turn your house into a REAL haunted house... Everyone wants 2 go like my grandfather, peaceful & asleep. Not like his passengers, screaming and awake!!!

Thats a great how to.

did you just wire each one up individually or did you use landscaping timer and power wire for that?

They all just have pigtails, so you could power them either way. I plan to use them with a PC power supply and a home-made "Kit74" type parallel port relay board. I'll have a VSA routine controlling my lighting and sound effects & want to be able to highlight different areas of my yard at different times.
