Howdy folks

I am doing my first props with foam and I used a wood putty as a filler. Didnt have an immediate reaction to the foam. ( tested it before hand) But about two hours later I could tell there was a slight reaction so what is reccomended as a safe fille for gaps and cracks?

SOme wood fillers shrink a bit when dry. I would apply another coat and sand. Wood filler is the preferred medium for foam filling.
On a side note, I just got back from Home Depot in Calif....and they had PINK EXTRUDED FOAM!! (Foamular...no blue, just pink.) First time I've seen it here ever. Of course I bought some for Fence pillars. I saw it there and my jaw dropped.

okay thanks

I am 90% into this and I cannot really go back now but I was thinking for my next foam project I would try a different filler

Yes, a wood filler is what most of 'us' use and I haven't had anybody say it was reacting with the foam. I think Doc is correct, most fillers will shrink a bit. IF you think it is reacting with the foam, paint a coat of latex paint on the surfaces before using the putty.

For larger openings, use Great Stuff spray foam. Make sure you wear protective clothing and that you have 'other' things to fill with the foam. Once you open the can you have to use it all up.

Good luck and post pics of you project! :)

maybe you could use caulking.
