So I have done some sort of yard haunt or display every year for a long time. For some reason all these years when I needed to wire something to power I would buy a cheap extension cord and cut the end off. The other day while at the Home Depot I ran across replacement power cords for power tools. Holy smokes where were these in years past!!!?? They come in two blade or the three prong grounded type. Also in different length, good solid wire all you have to do is attach same method wire nuts and you are good to go. They were on the same aisle as the extension cords. Not sure why I never noticed them before? Maybe I just never looked for them because I was focused on something else.

Computer power cords work great also if you have access to an IT person or someone you know who works in an office. Give them food and they will score some for you. A lot of them get thrown away.

Mac,

Make sure you compare prices! Sometimes, it is cheaper to buy the extension cords and cut off the length you want. You also then have a second extension cord, with the addition of a plug.

I used tu buy those 100' 16/3 orange extension cords from Walmart (several years ago, they went for $7.95 each) to use just for the wire. I wired several pontoon boats that way. The wire came out to @ $.08/ft, while at the same time 16/3 wire on the spool was going for twice that! Go figure....
