Tried to log into the chat room and was told I was banned. So, have I been banned or is the new chat system not working?

I'm not quite done yet. In order for the new chat to work, I believe I'll need you all to clear your caches and cookies and maybe have you search for a SWF file on your PCs and ask you to delete it. I'll let you know in a while when I'm done. :)

I'll reply to the other thread when its ready.

Well Z, I am flat broke so I have no cach, I ate all my cookies for lunch and if there was a single white female on my pc I am sure I would have seen her by now.

The chat room is up and running. If you're having problems getting in, you may need to follow these instructions (http://www.hauntforum.com/showthread.php?t=2179) to correct the problem.

Thank you for your patience.

I fixed a little setting I overlooked and it should work now. You MAY need to do the fix instructions again, but try without doing it anyway first. I apologize for the problems.

I worked the first time I tried it with no mods. I however have no icons option.
The ones that appear by your username. I'll try clearing out my cookies and see what happens.

I had shut that off while I tested things. It should be back now, but if not you may have to clear the cookies and clear out the SWF file again.

Seems to be working fine for me now. I just logged in without doing any changes. And the SWF says hi.

Zombie-F
05-10-2006, 04:40 PM
Is the border color still purple or is it green to match the rest of the forums? If it's still purple, you will need to delete the SWF file as the older version may not gel 100% with everyone else who is on the new version of the chat.

Did all the stuff and it seems to work fine. But I am having a major lag time between typing and the words on the screen. About six or more letters behind and it a real pain. Both here and the chat room. What's up.

Zombie-F
05-11-2006, 06:20 AM
Lag time? Is the lag time there when the chat window is closed or only when it's opened? I may need to re-do some of the images and sounds to be smaller file sizes for the chat room if this is the case.

I may also need to turn off some features to make it run smoother.

I just tryed both the reply to posts and the chat room. There is no lag time between typing and word image now. I made no changes to my pc. I am guessing you have done something. Thanks, it was driving me nuts trying to type and see what I was typing. If you hav'nt done anything then we must have gremilns in the forum, which seems right some how.

Zombie-F

I didn't do anything, but now that I think about it, when I first logged into the "new" version of the chat room, I too experienced some lag that was gone the next time I logged in. If it returns, I'll look into what could be causing it.

Damned gremlins. :googly:

Spoke to soon, started having lags in the chat room again. Randomly, about 4 or 5 letters. Seemed to get better when I loged in a second time. Acting like the system is over loaded or something. Noticed that vlads bat locks up too. Hope you can figure it out.

Zombie-F

Strange, I'm not experiencing this any more. It could be your computer. Have you scanned for viruses and/or spyware/adware lately? Spyware and adware can choke a system up pretty good.

I have no lags at all at chat or here on the forums. The fault must not be the UP st. software.

That's what I'm thinking because kryptonoff has that problem too, due to an overheating laptop.

I think I may switch back to the older version of chat if a resolution doesn't present itself before this Saturday's chat session. I can't have that kind of lag when there's like 10 - 15 people in there at once.

The old system is a little buggy too, but not to a point where it is so sluggish. The main bug with the old system that annoyed me was that sometimes the user images and/or smilies wouldn't work and sometimes the sounds wouldn't work either.

I'm going to work on getting the old system back up and running after I watch Hostel this afternoon. With luck, it should be back on/around 8:00 PM EDT.

Ok, I've heard back from the moderators on the FlashChat forums. This is an issue they are working on fixing. In the meantime, I've enabled a feature that will help reduce the lag.

The next time you log in to the chat, above the text input box there will be a new button labelled "Clear." This button clears all the posted chat messages out of the chat room. When the lag starts to creep up on you, just click it and that will clear out all the stored messages. This SHOULD reset the lag back to nothing until a lot of messages get stored up again.

Apparently, this version has a few bugs that they're working on fixing, this among them. Since they gave me a workaround, we're going to stick with this version until the next stable release comes out.

In the event the "Clear" button does not appear to you, follow the instructions I posted in this thread (http://forums.unpleasantstreet.com/showthread.php?t=2179) and then log back in to the chat room.

My sincere apologies for these difficulties.

Z, "page cannot be found" for the fix. I can log in, but can't type. Did anything change between last night and today?

Oh, and when I close the chat and try to come to the forum, it says I don't have permission and it gets a 404 handling the error page. This is for every page on the site. I have to go visit another site and come back to get into the forums :(

Still having a problem in the chat room with the message lagging behind the typing by 4 to 8 letters. But on the other hand I have no such problem when typing a pm or email or this message, just in the chat room. I updated to flash 8 too. Hitting the "clear" button has little or no effect. The only way to fix it is to log out of the chat room and log back in again. Also never had such problem with the old system either.

There's not much that can be done about the lag. Just logging out, closing the chat window, and then logging back in. It's a problem that I'm hoping is corrected in the next version of the chat software, which I hope is right around the corner.

Hey thanks for putting the skull icon back in the bookmark. It's always the little things that you miss when there not there. Thanks Dave.
