Mechanical Organ Grinder

Every year for the last 3 I have added 1 animatronic to my display.
This year I wanted to add something different than the normal halloween type prop. After a lot of thought and such I have decided on a Skeletal Organ Grinder.

I'll leave out the fine details until I have them nailed down.

I am basing the design on http://www.grimvisions.com/images/organgrinder/142723%5b1%5d.jpg

This is a large undertaking for me, and I have enlisted several friends to help me out.
The are at least 5 movements to be engineered, Thats a lot for me, I think to date the most complex prop I have done is the Scarefx witch with 2 movements.

Dr M, Mixed the tunes the prop will be playing.
A guy I work with is building the organ itself, I suck at fine woodwork.
Another friend is doing the Prop-1 stuff for the control of the whole thing.
I will be doing the design, armature building, costume, script, painting, and whatever else needs to be done.

Anyway, As the project progresses I will update the page I have started at
http://www.grimvisions.com/thegrinder.htm

Wish me luck

I will certainly be cheering you along, don't hesitate to ask me if there is anything I can help with. This should be a really nice prop, am looking forward to following its construction.

I think it would be cool if you could get the monkey to do a flip. That would be one of those Dr. M things that he likes to do.

ooo! Yes, a timed cam on the hind legs...yes, I think that should work..

Krough - for some ideas and inspiration have you looked @ Born2Haunt.com? Frank does an incredible job with wire-framing and latex mache. His spider monkeys give me the creeps.

You are off to a fantastic start - Do you plan on applying fur to the outside? corpsing? What are you doing next?

I know, I know - wait for the pics like everyone else - right???

Probably some corpsing and patches of fur.

I got my scary terry audio circuit and servo yesterday. So I will be working on the skull soon. I still havent settled on a head turn and nod armature yet. So if any of you have ideas please post them here.

I have found http://www.markshauntedgarage.com/halloween/2003/skull.html
