I did some work today on my Mr thrifty standing skeleton. This is part of the prop that will be holding the evil balloons. I originally used quikplastic, It alone wasnt able to keep the skele in pose. So after the quikplastic set I drilled holes about 3 inches long thru the knee joints top to bottom (if you look closely you can see a black dot on the top of each knee this is the top of the rod) and the ankle as well. I then filled these with a bit of epoxy and drove 1/8 inch steel rod into them. He is quite sturdy now. I am happy. I now wonder if I could do this with a bucky to make it stand alone

Someone's wife lets him spend WAY more on his hobbies than mine does me! :D
I'm just glad I'm not a preschooler on Krough's block!

I am always getting asked 'are you doing that halloween stuff again!'. Its a delicate balance between props and honey do's, but the good thing is my wife has actually voiced approval of something I made! Wait, what is it dear? No, I'm not dong halloween stuff right now....

Busted!
I don't see why it wouldn't work on a Bucky as well Krough. You guys just need to get the wife involved as well. Have them build one prop and catch the fever.

As you know Krough I'm trying to do something similar but with a full sized Bucky. Mine is kneeling and I have had a hard time getting that balanced to sit up by itself. I also used the Quikplastic in conjunction with screws. Used three inch screws but they were not strong enough, the steel rod is probally the way to go. Those Buckys are HEAVY!! Maybe in an upright postion it wouldn't be so hard to balance. Trying to balance him over his knees and then counter balance his arms in front of him was/is difficult. I would guess you will defintely need a sturdy base. I finally gave up trying to hold him up myself and assemble him. Made a quick base to mold him on and will replace that with a better one. Will probally have to use a clear plastic rod coming up from the base to steady him in the end.
Looks awesome as usual. Keep up the good work. Wish I had as much free time to work on my stuff. Today for sure since the wife is gone and can't do yard work due to rain!!

Yeah, I was going to recommend a rod in his end to steady him. ;)

Pumpkinrot has a nice standing Bucky - I think he used an old pole lamp. If it were painted black you probably wouldn't notice it. The pole on his Bucky is mostly covered by the corpsing materials.

Yes I am lucky to have the ability to work on my props frequently. Although I just purchased an 8x10' shed to build in the backyard, that will take away from my prop building time. Of course as I was deciding upon which one to get I made sure it was large enough to use as the "caretakers cottage" once the display move into the backyard. :D

I have looked at that standing skeleton at Pumpkinrot many times, never could exactly tell if there was extra support or not. Now I know
I was thinking of using a rod to stablize the skele, but I want to be able to make it stand unassisted, not like anyone will notice, but its a good challenge.

One other thing about Pumpkinrot's standing and crouching Buckys - he replaced the original skulls with lighter Skillcraft models, at least on the crouching skelly. He told me that he just couldn't get the hot glue to hold up that much weight. The Skillcraft models have way better teeth, too. On a standing Bucky it probably won't make as much difference, though.

I can't talk now Dr. Morbius, I am doing krough's laundry. His Pumpkinrot underroos are soaking as we speak. Plus, if you ever wanted to know, it is true what they say about haunter's underwear; they have orange and black racing stripes.

Wow, I thought it was only my wife that yells at me to do the dishes. She hates it when I leave the peanut butter on the spoon. All I can say is, "Krough is in trouble, Krough is in trouble!" Ha ha ha, nana booboo. I guess this means that Krough can't come out and play any more. Ha ha.:googly:
