[Zombie-F]

DeathTouch brought up a pretty brilliant idea for helping to raise money to support this web site's costs... a calendar featuring some of our "HauntGirls." :D

SO, this is an open call to all the females of the forum to submit a digital photo of themselves for inclusion in a 2007 12 month wall calendar to be sold at the HauntForum CafePress Store (http://www.cafepress.com/hauntforum) starting this September.

Here's the requirements on the images:

Image Size: The image must be a minimum of 1725 pixels wide by 1350 pixels high. Preferred image dimensions are 2300 pixels wide by 1800 pixels high.
Image Format: The image must be a high-quality JPEG, PNG, BMP or TIFF image. No gifs... they're too low-quality to use.
Content: Keep the pictures (at worst) PG-13. :D
Deadline: July 31st, 2006.
Age: You must be at least 18 years of age to participate.

If you're interested but don't own a digital camera, perhaps a friend or family member could help out. Just make sure that the image size meets the requirements listed above. If you don't know what the dimensions mean, odds are the person who owns the camera will.

The deadline is July 31st, so anyone who'd like to participate has a month and a half to produce a photo. Existing photos are fine (provided they meet the above requirements), but if you don't have one you're satisfied with, you have plenty of time to stage a new picture.

We're mainly interested in photos of you in your Halloween costume or a photo of you with a prop or in your haunt. It can be a sexy photo if you like, just remember to keep it PG-13.

When I get enough photo submissions, I will either assign months based on themes within the photograph or do it randomly. I'd like to get 12 females here to participate, but if it comes down to it, I can deal with 6 or 4 and just have each person submit multiple photos and give each woman 2 or 3 months each.

It would be sexist if zombie had asked the girls to dress up sexy, but this is more of a trubute to the hauntgirls of hauntforum. He just asked for a photo not something in a nightie or what not. And asking Me, Dr. M, and FE to dress up in something that was out of our element is truly sexest. Now if Grapegrl or Lhollow ask me to send a picture in for a calendar if the table was turned, I would. I would do it for the fun of it, because I know that there are better things to look at than me.

Sure, that'd be fine Da Weiner. Just make sure the picture is high resolution and I should be able to work with it. If it's not, bust out the costume and camera and take the highest-res image the camera can handle and you can send me that to work with.

I have heard from one of my MySpace pals (The LOVELY Ivory and Steel) about submitting a picture, but she's not a member here yet. I'll keep chipping away at her. If I can get her to sign up, that will bring the number to six, which would mean I'd need 2 photos from each person. I really would like to get a different person for each month, but this could be a good start. :D

I think Hauntiholik and LHallow would be good additions (if we can persuade LHallow to join). If we can get them to play along with us, that would make 8 people participating. Not a bad start. :D

Come on, there's gotta be 4 - 5 more of you out there. :D

Alrighty , count on Bodybagged which is My female counter part if she hasnt joined the forum yet she will later today, Now for a financial question, has anyone weighed the costs vs recovery on this endeavor yet, Calendars arent that cheap to produce and you would have to sell quite a few to recover startup. Not meaning to sound like a downer but its what has stopped me from making a few myself for the hearse club!

That's why I'm doing it via my CafePress store. NO up front money, and they're printed on an "as needed" basis when people order them.

The base price per calendar is (I think) $13 and if I want to make any profit on them, I just pump the price up beyond that. I'll probably have the final cost of it be $17, which sounds reasonable to me, and generates a cool $4 per calendar. Cafepress handles printing and shipping the item.

Also, if $17 sounds too steep to any of you, not to worry, CafePress is always running promotions for $3 - $5 off your order, so you can almost always save a few bucks.

Or just highlight Halloween theme ideas.....fun with fog machines....popular party Halloween food and drinks, outdoor lighting tips, that sort of thing. Similar to other calandars....for example...a baking calendar may have a recipe for each month or a wildlife calendar may give a brief description of each animal being profiled, etc.

With all the people on this forum it would probably be very easy to come up with 12 (easy?) "how tos" or/and halloween tips.

I've also added some sample text of how I will present the woman's name on the photo. The month will likely appear above their name in a smaller font.

Ghostess used her camera with no flash and a longer exposure time for that creepy, dark red look.

The text of the recipe/tip/whatever will probably appear over one of the lower corners of the photo.

Oh, and a tip to those of you who may not have a nifty background like Ghostess does, take your photo against a solid colored background (like a wall that's been painted all the same color) and I *should* be able to add a more appropriate background or else create something out of thin air to serve as a background... I hope. :D

Okay, I'm geared up for this! Gonna have my pic taken tomorrow. As far as a tip...hmmmm...Here's a tip for parents. Don't promise your children the corner or a slap on the bottom as punishment for a bad deed. Promise to SCARE them in the middle of the night while they're sleeping, instead. Worked for me EVERYtime! My eldest son would sometimes go without sleep for a night and longer for fear I'd bust in his room with a hideous mask....LMAO!!
That son is now working two jobs and enrolled in college to become a computer programmer. Aaaaaah, HORROR...gotta LOVE it!! :D

Or, how about have each lady pick a fav prop and just post a LINK to the how-to, hosted here at hauntforum? That way, it doesn't fight with the picture, AND drives more traffic here!

That's a good idea too. I probably wouldn't do any urls though because I don't think anyone's going to look at their calendar and go over to the computer and type in things like: http://www.unpleasantstreet.com/index.php?x=/projects/2004/thunder_columns&y=main. It's just too much of a mouthful to type out anything more than a base url.

This type of thing seems like it'd be more plausible to do instead of lengthy recipes or halloween tips. How does everyone else feel about this?

I totally agree. Having to scrap the photo wasn't an easy decision. I've even been playing with resizing it up to see if it'll work, but it just gets too blurry going up in resolution.

Hopefully next year she'll be able to make it. :)

You might have something there. I don't have th capabilities of doing that. But, if Zombie F wants to take a stab at it, I'm game.

I'll take a crack at it. I do have to size it up from 640 x 480 up to 1800 x 1350 though, so that's a really HUGE jump to make. No garauntees it'll come out good, but I will try to do something.

Ok, I ran a sepia filter to make the photo look really old, but the loss of quality was still very apparent. So then I ran a texture filter over it and BAM! I think this looks really kick ass. As long as Empress is cool with it, I think I'll be using this after all. :D

I have kids at home...SONS, actually. 14 and 9. There's nothing showing. There's only the possibility of what would show if she moved a little further. My eldest son would look at it, roll his eyes and keep walking. BUT, that's my son. Other children may react differently, as well as other parents. I'm just happy my picture didn't come out with any cleavage. If you only knew how I kept pulling that dress up..... LOL! :googly:

I've only told a few people but I'm doing a Medusa costume for the calendar. I got part of the wig done last Sunday. I'll be adding about 19 more smaller snakes to it. It already weighs a friggin ton. It has a wire mesh structure that the snakes are wired to.

Sorry FE, I couldn't wait for you're costume to get in :(

That's Bob, one of my props, not his best body to date, either. His first year he had an awesome monstermud one, he was over 8ft tall. But we couldn't waterproof it enough and it collapsed. I got that mask from the wonderful Big Lots about 6 years ago for only $9! It was something like $60 online, I just happened to see it on there once.

But people thought it was someone standing still and kept thinking it was going to move!

I was looking through the pictures here already, while i have no problem whatsoever with bodybagged's entry. As a parent we have a 16yr old daughter, 15 year old son, and 11 year old son. while the 11 year old wouldn't know what was going on, i don't want to put that kind of impression on our daughter or give Our oldest son any material so to speak.

in short we have impresionable aged kids in our home. i personally would not display it in my home nor allow it.
