View Full Version : May we have a May Make and Take?

Shall we get together in the latter half of May? We need two things: Place and project.

The last place was pretty cool even if it was a bit of a drive. It allowed for some new faces, though. Who knows - maybe Dave won't even weeny out of this one :). If that's no good, there's always my place (I vote for this option!)

As far as project, I've really been wanting to build a "spitter" and I nominate Joey to lead the charge. I like this prop because, seriously, what prop do you own that wouldn't be more effective if it sprayed a mysterious liquid onto those who wondered too close?

Having said all that, as you know, I'm easy and will more than likely be on board with anything you guys want to do.

A Spitter is really easy all you need a pneumatic fitting

My Place is available too

May 21 is my only free Saturday/Weekend... we're starting our Ghost Hunts and I have meeting after meeting in May. If that's not doable, no worries, i'll try to catch the next one.

HalloweenZombie

I'm good with May 21st too I think.
Joe, can you give us an idea of what the spitter mechanism would cost? That usually factors into people's participation. I notice the more expensive projects have lower attendance.
It seems we have an abundance of places to hold this Make and Take, which is a good problem to have considering we've had a lack of locations in the past. Any suggestions on how we decide?

Here are the possible locations:
Denny's house Hooksett, NH
Dave's house Pembroke, MA
Boy Scouts Lodge Douglas, MA (Have to make a prop for the boy scouts, but no weather issues)
Joe's house Sterling, MA (Large garage, no weather issues)
And I'm not sure if David is volunteering Fort Adams this time around, but that's in Newport, RI

Spitter is simply a fitting the main aspect is hiding and fitting the fitting in the prop it cost around 20$ +shipping if we want I can order the fitting so we save on shipping I use another way to do spitter too but it cost to much to do a make and take on it

Note Hiding it in a bucky can be a little hard but worth it
Sample of what it does

Oh, and, hello Carol - welcome back to the party!

Joey - what is the trigger mech? Can I use a prop controller to sync everything up? I plan on waaayyyy over complicating this one. I should have a mostly finished prop ready to install (I just have no idea what it's gonna look like yet).

runs off of a solenoid which we are also going to need just a simply 2 way solenoid 1/4 NPT. In the video the prop runs off of a prop 1 using a pressure mat and 2 solenoids

Just a side note to everyone this project is a pneumatic project so it will cost some money about 60$ but well worth it in the long run. You may want to try to find some of the stuff on Ebay but if you don't have a lot of knowledge on pneumatics I would not suggest doing it. You might find a 2 way solenoid and think its a 1/4 port and end up with a 7/32" port or get a 120 volt solenoid when you need it to be 12 or 24 volt to run off a prop 1. You need some knowledge to know that a SMC NVFS2100-5FZ-01T means it is a 24volt Valve and Manifold with 1/8 NPT Fittings. I would suggest you buy your stuff from Dean at Monster Guts because he is awesome and has sponsored some of our make and takes.

If we choose to do this project
Parts list would be
(2) 1/4 NPT Fittings Push Quick Connects can be elbow too

I'm voting for Douglas MA, simply because it seems to be centrally located for everyone, even though it's an hour and a half ride for me. I'm pretty sure John could hook us up with a compressor.

Would it be possible for someone to create a poll for voting like we do with the dvd covers and prop challenges? I'd do it myself, but I haven't got a clue.

Hey Guys,

My College just emailed me a message about graduation, right now I don't see it possible for me to make it to this make and take because I won't be done graduation until 1:30 at the earliest, and then drive to Dave that will take me almost 2 hours to get there. I have one suggestion for this I am willing to host the make and take at my place, otherwise we will have to reschedule this make and take and teach something else on Saturday.

I would skip my graduation but my mom has already paid a photographer

Let's do it at Joe's place then. There is a threat of rain for the weekend and if that happens we won't be able to work with power tools and such at my place.

Okay - quick question regarding the 2 Way Solenoid Valve.

The shopping list indicates that the choice of voltage depends on how you want to trigger the prop. Um - this will be my first foray into pneumatics and, frankly, I'm not sure. I would certainly be going as low-tech as possible, practically speaking.

Any suggestions, anyone?
I'd be happy for any info anyone wants to offer, or any link I'm pointed towards...

go with 12v because sooner or later you will be hooking it up to a prop controller, just will need to get a 12volt P/S and we can make you a push button switch like this http://monsterguts.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=222 I think I got all the stuff in my shop

Carol, the 110 voltage is what you plug into your wall. You could stop and start the spitter with a power strip that has an on/off switch or one of those christmas tree foot buttons to keep it simple. If you want to go with the 12 vdc, that's fine too, you just have to get an adapter. Also, if you are going with a controller of some sort, go with 12 vdc.

....nothing quite says "Graduation party" like a large group of haunters with carloads of 'dead things'...

actually, I think that would apply to any event that has the word 'party' in it's name... if blurry/fuzzy memory serves...

Hey Guys

I have some extremely bad new the package of fittings has just hit a snag in shipping and is now delayed and won't be here until monday, I am trying to get in contact with the store and see if they can overnight another set of fittings, but I don't know how lucky I will be. So we are going to either have to cancel this or come up with a bring your own project.

I still want to get together. I've got lots of my own projects I want to work on. I'd say we could switch the location back to Dave's house, but it looks like rain for Saturday. Joe, are you still good with having this at your house? If not, maybe we could make it Douglas. I WANT TO BUILD PROPS WITH MY HAUNTER FRIENDS NO MATTER WHAT!

yea my house is free to use, If the package makes it into MA sort facility I should be able to pick it up there if it shows up on friday. Also I will do a demo one pneumatics since we got a few new people and this was going to be their first pneumatic prop.
So fucking pissed off at them right now it took them 3 days to ship out my order, and the sales department guarantee it would be here Friday time to get them to pay for their mistakes.

I'm going to have everything except the solenoid. Didn't get an order in with Dean yet.

Power supplies... damn, I have a drawer full of them. I save those things from everything!

I'm also going to bring my shirt for my zombie costume for the Zombie Walk. I want to spill grease, ketchup, mustard, etc on it to make it look kinda gross. :)

I had a great time. That spitting mechanism is going to come in handy. Joe, thanks for hosting and ordering the parts we needed. And please please thank your Mom and Dad for me. They always make us feel welcome. And your Mom probably meant I was nice for putting up with the Dora comments. :-)
Also, thanks to Matt for the hand molds. I appreciate it.

Thanks from me too Joe ! Had a great time. Pass on my thanks to your folks also (so, how many figures has dad started/finished yet ?...lol)
Looking forward to rigging up the spitters, I was going to have my spider shooting a rigged-up GID silly string can.. now I don't have to rig it up (*and* less chance of having an accidental 'blowtorch' with the silly string's flammable propellants)....
@ Vic: glad I could have given you 'a hand' (or 2),
and I'm actually looking for the information from the molding M&T @ Dave's, as I need to order more 2 part 'skin' & also the molding wax, (I have an older oval crock I'm looking to 'claim' from the house...lol)

*Edit*.. actually just searched forums & found the thread for that M&T with the wax, etc...
