I dont know, it will end up being somewhat wingy in texture when im done I hope. Its linen and beef netting. Or maybe it will be more leathery like bat wings.
I dont plan ahead, I just make it.

Nice work,
Is the Krough going to be feathered completely? Looks very creepy so far. I have no more progress yet. My son is having a fundraiser so I am in cookie dough hell this week, until sat, when I can go into the dungeon...er garage and work ;)

Nice work so far you guys.

Oh, by the way...What in the heck is beef netting? lol And where would one purchase such a product? Not for this project, but I can think of some future uses!

I dont think I'll feather it completely. It will cost too much and not give me the look I want.
Beef netting is a stretchy net type fabric used to make spider webs.
Bu I like to use it to make clothes for my props

Well, isn't that a crow(or Krough) of a different feather? LOL.

I figured it would take a lot of feathers to cover the whole thing! Looks great as is.

Painted some more tonight. Mostly done with the head. New teaser; shows little. :)

I've been wanting to use the name "detritus" for a prop for years, but never had one deserving of it til now. I starting tossing the idea around a few months ago. I've decided to go forward despite a certain parody video.

Yeah, I know I've seen pictures posted here from at least several people. I'm still working on the body for mine, and have otherwise been lurking on this thread. Who knows how many people are still working on them? Might be running up closer to the deadlines since it's that time of year to be working on other halloween projects too.

I expect to make a lot of progress on mine this weekend, but probably won't be ready to submit til next week.

Hehe, well, the teasers are the best views of it, IMHO. :) lol, I'm being too harsh on myself. I know that. I'm always my own worst critic. Heh. :)

Funny you should mention PR's Blight. He and I had similar (not identical, mind you, just similar) ideas this year. We had a good laugh about it a while ago. When you see the whole thing, you'll see that my result is quite different.

Yep, I'd love to see a whole bunch of scarecrows when the voting date rolls around. Definitely don't be intimidated. I've never done a scarecrow before, haven't touched mache in a very long time, etc, but I think mine is coming out pretty well. It's all about having an idea and just going with it.

Hey, does anyone know... is it possible to put an inline video in a forum post using YouTube or an IFRAME or something? Can we go back and revise our entry before it becomes publically viewable? I'm guessing I need to get it right the first time.

It can be any material as long as the point that contacts the ground is no greather than 4" x 4". And bear in mind, 4" PVC is a measure of the inner diameter, so if you're using 4" PVC, which has an outer diameter greater than 4", the entry would be disqualified.

It's probably hard to guess participation based on this thread... Before my "teasers" it probably looked like I wasn't joining in... except for the picture of the stand I posted a while back.

Nice job! Lots of interesting takes on the theme...

Great. Now it sounds like a form letter. :)

I see in the rules it says.

Scarecrow must be of a height equal to or greater than than 72" tall. One of your photographs must show the entire scarecrow laid out on the ground with a ruler/tape measure next to it detailing the size.

My scarecrow is an upper torso only that measures maybe 42". So does that mean I cant enter? I know its the rules but I mean who says every scarecrow has to have legs or be a certain height. That limits artistic expression. I have a 4X4 in the ground that makes the prop stand well over 72" high does that count as its overall height? :jol:

krough

I believe that the height includes the post BobC. But im sure Zombie-F will clarify

I would hope it would be included BobC.

I already asked this question:
Zombie, I have a question...I noticed in the rules:Scarecrow must be of a height equal to or greater than than 72" tall. One of your photographs must show the entire scarecrow laid out on the ground with a ruler/tape measure next to it detailing the size.

Does this include the poll, or does the Scarecrow ITSELF have to be at least 6 feet? I'm assuming it includes the poll, but you know what happens when we assume!
This means from the point of contact with the ground to the highest point of the scarecrow.

So, the poll counts in the overall height.

Morbius is right. I have ammended the rules to be clearer on that point.

I tell ya, I always think these builds are going to be failures up until the last minute when I get like 6 entries the last week. Everyone's stuff looks great. I hope we see a few more, but 10 (or is it 11 now?) entries is freaking awesome.

The thing I like most about this was we didn't wind up with 11 pumpkinrot knockoffs. Everyone brought something fresh and new to the table. Good job everyone.

Zombie, if you remember it was suggested that people wait until the end to post, advice I for one decided to follow. And I do think this is the best turnout, and best variety of really quality entries yet. It is going to be very tough to vote! Thanks for hosting this contest.

Dr Morbius

I really like the great variety in the various SC's. Although, I was expecting more of a turnout. I know the history of these contests has been 12 people or less, I thought there would be more. Look at how many times the rules and discussion have been viewed...Plus, we have what- 260 active members on role? If only 10 percent participated thats 26 people....I invisioned an army of Scarecrows-50,60 minimum.....
(I feel better now that I got that off my chest. Thanks for listening.)

Zombie-F
10-01-2006, 05:33 AM
Well, all the entries are in! In total there are 19, but one person didn't include their tape measure shot and I need to start the voting, so I'm (unfortunately) going to have to exclude that one. That's why I stress in the future everyone really examines the rules before entering. I feel bad doing it, but I asked so many others before to include their tape measure shot and to just let this one slide would be unfair to everyone else.

Regardless, the voting will begin later this morning, once I'm done preparing the polls. When you vote, make sure you read the voting guidelines in the poll thread CAREFULLY. Anyone who votes for more than 3 entries will have ALL of their votes discounted. Any entrant who votes for their own entry will have their votes discounted and will be excluded from winning any prizes.

Sure! I'd be happy to..
If you go here: http://www.hauntforum.com/showthread.php?t=3944
You will see, after the list of picture links Zombie provided, 2 rules:

There are only two rules in this poll:
You may NOT vote for your own submission.
You can NOT vote for more than three submissions

So as you can see, you may vote for up to 3 submissions. (As per the rules..assuming multiple voting is turned on..hehe)

Hey Zombie...I guess you meant Sunday is when the polls close? Just so folks know if they have more time to vote, just a clarification may be in order, as the poll thread says this:
The poll will be open to voting for seven days. So, next Saturday, at about 6:30 AM (EDT), the poll will automatically be closed and the winners will be determined.
