Well it is that time again that Winfield is having their annual Carnival! I thought it would be fun to have a Make and Take at my house on Saturday, July 30th than head to the carnival down the road. :) If you are interested in attending please respond in this thread and I will give you my address. Looking forward to the meeting and the wacky things that happen during the course of the day! Hee..hee :D If people want to bring munchies for the meeting than head to the carnival to eat than that would be great! (BYOB or other beverages) If you would rather throw some burgers and hot dogs on the grill than we could do that also.

It sounds like fun, but as you know, we can't make it. Have a funnel cake or two for us. I just checked and the wedding is at 5, and since they were late for our initial meeting, I'm just guessing that they will be late for their wedding too. That's also Kenny's birthday, so I may end up taking him to dinner, since I have to give him his gift the day before (if they aren't all booked up that is). I hope you guys have a great time. If I can get the invitations ready (if my son ordered the mold off Ebay for me that is), maybe I can come up one day and drop them off at your place and you can hand them out for me, since I won't see you guys again until the party if you can make it. Have a great time!

Sharon,

I'm in! And maybe I'll bring you a case of Four Loko as you are decidedly entertaining when that is your drink of choice...speaking of wacky things that happen. ;>

Burgers and dogs are fine with me, but eating at the carnival is good too. Less prep work and hassle.

LOL...I agree with not dealing with the prep work and hassle, so it sounds like just munchies before the carnival and dinner at the carnival. I most likely shouldn't of had six beers before drinking 3/4 of the can of Four Loko, but it was all good!!!! Sorry Pattie that you can't make it! :( I'm sure that will not be a problem about the invitations! Looking forward to it!

LOL..we are making up for lost time! :) I had a Make and Take at my place last year when the Winfield Carnival was going on. We had so much fun that I thought it would be a good idea to do it again. Anyway our meeting was small last Make and Take so hopefully we will get more members attending!!!! You know you and your wife are more than welcome! :)

Dixie, you are always welcome, no matter who is hosting. If you''re not doing anything in November, you are welcome to come up to a party. We'll put you up for the night, provide plenty of food, music and haunters. Invite is open to all who may want to venture out this way.

OK, back to the carnival thread...lol

Frightguy, at various times we've had haunters join us from Illinois, Kentucky, North Carolina, Connecticut, and probably other places I'm forgetting. Just goes to show that our group is open to everyone..lol.

Wish I could join you guys that day. Kenny's birthday and a stupid wedding at 5:00 pm. If we hadn't already signed a contract with them I'd push them off onto someone else..lol. I hope you guys have fun though. Have a funnel cake for me!

Ok due to popular demand, we're going to be doing some welding basics using my brandy new mig welder. This will help us as we move into pneumatics and welding new members cars together in the driveway. This is not a "let's all stand around and watch" project as the limited number of welding helmets would leave everyone blind.
So let's hear what else everyone wants as a side project, and or if anyone needs help finishing something, or needs helps with something. I have a van again and can carry what tools might be needed for most anything.
I'm very much looking forward to seeing everyone there. It'll save me the effort of going house to house tracking each of you down.

LOL Debbie and Greg!

I have a suggestion for the Make and Take. What about different ways to make a mold? I know we went over the latex and cheesecloth method, but maybe someone will have another method for making a mold? I saw a pretty cool paper mache mold on the forum, but does anyone else have any other ways to make a mold?

There were a couple of different mache/mold threads being bounced around. I think the one your thiniking of is Jaybo's??? Jeez, I might even have that wrong. I thought the mold was made from something else and the paper mache was used to make the final cast??

Vlad

what if we WANT a flash burn in our eyes??

Trust me, you do not want to be at a make and take vision impaired........................

Yes Greg, I also believe that the mache was the medium, not the mold.

Sharon there are various methods and types of materials used to make molds. We can discuss it at the make and take, cause I ain't spending that kinda money till we're sure we want to make some, lol.

If anyone has a link to a mold making method they're interested in, please post it here.

thanks Greg, two helmets would be the minimum, I'll see if I can borrow some from work for the weekend also. I just picked up some new welding gloves, and have the welding jackets as well. Straight jackets are optional.

Since you've just climbed back out of the grave, we've decided as a group to have our meetings on the second Saturday every month. So that would be August 13th. Of course we can change the date if there's a good reason to.

Now we just need a location since Patty is busy with weddings.

I'll talk to you soon. Am enjoying near-100 degree weather in sunny Virginia at the moment. Spent the day scaring the bejesus out of myself riding on rollercoasters and such at Busch Gardens.

Oh yeah! Was out canoeing today on the James River. It's friggin' hot out there today. Heat index is something like 122 degrees. Came back to go in the pool and it wasn't even refreshing, felt like I was swimming in a bathtub. The only place that's comfortable is the room with the AC on max. Environment be damned! :D

Tomorrow's supposed to be even hotter. Will be hitting Water Country USA. You may need a crowbar and a locksmith to get me out of there.

FWIW, I did see some Halloween decorations out in some of the local shops around here, but it was all pretty cheesy stuff.

Ok just a reminder that the July 30th Make and Take at my house is tomorrow!!!! I talked to Karen and we were thinking about Burgers and hot dogs, just in case you don't want to spend a fortune at the Carnival. I will get hamburgers! I will also supply Tortitos and salsa. I have to buy propane also, so that is all I can supply. If anyone can help out with some items that would be great! Karen is bringing hot dogs, hot dog rolls and salad. We still need hamburger rolls and some kind of snack during the day (chips, finger foods, shrimp..hee hee)! Don't forget to bring your own beverages! Well, as of right now I've been told I have a birthday party I want to go to tomorrow. Stand by, folks. If you see fireworks in the night sky tonight that will be me trying to get out of this ordeal.

Ken, if I do get a pass, are we still on for hearse-pooling? If so, I'll send you a PM with my address and then update you on my status. If you've got other arrangements, no problem. Driving to Sharon's is so close it's like walking to the corner bodega. Somehow shaving 36 exits off my ride makes it seem to go by so fast. Go figure.

What a great time yesterday! I so need to get me a welding kit now. Thanks, Ken for bringing your welder and Greg for the instruction. Who knew that welding could be so much fun? I want to join pieces of metal together whether they need to be joined or not!

I also got a little bit of tombstone carving done yesterday too, so hopefully that will get me out of the rut I've been in. And apparently I was able to prove that, yes, a guy can look pretty freakin' awesome in a bikini. I'm sure Sharon your daughter didn't mind sharing, but if you're smart you won't tell her. But don't you dare clean up that refrigerator. It looks perfectly creepy with that natural grime already built in.

And Ken, thanks also for allowing me to share the ride down with you and Karen. Now I know what Jeff has to endure each month though your ability to actually obey the posted speed limits is a remarkable achievement on its own.

It was a fun time yesterday but I'm still waiting for the phone to ring for the carnival's 50/50. I did forgot to get a funnel cake yesterday, though we at least had some really delicious corn on the cob (yes, Karen, I'll remember to put the cobs in the compost bin in the future!) and a shrimp ring. Thanks Carl and Debbie! Yum!

And thanks Sharon for being a great hostess, and proving once again that Four Loko is going to have to be your mandatory drink of choice from now on. Just remember for future Hibachi bonfires that you've got to have Hickory Sticks on hand to get it going (and preferably Weber hickory sticks at that).

Yes I forget to mention thanks so much for the welding lesson. I'm not sure if I would use it all that much, but it was interesting. Although I think someone mentioned that it will be useful for Pneumatics? So if that is the case I guess I will be doing more welding when we get into Pneumatics eventually. LOL Rich you did look good in a bikini and I believe I will have to stock up with the Weber Hickory Sticks for the future! :) Keeping my fingers crossed for one of us to win the 50/50! Oh and I will not clean up the refrigerator because I do agree that the grime looks perfect!

I had a BLAST yesterday!. Anyone else have arc burn? My forearms are considerably redder than they were yesterday LOL. It was great that so many wanted a shot at some introductory welding. It takes some time and patience, but everyone did GREAT for a first experiance.

It was really nice to see everyone again. SHaron.... Video??

So who want's to start up our August thread? I really liked the Talking boris hack as our next project since it sounds like a one day hack. We'll have to hear back from Karen and Ken as to the quantity/ cost/ viability of that build. As usual, please chime in with different Ideas.

There is still quite a bit of interest in building Fester, and given the hidden complexity of the build, it was discussed as a winter or early spring project for 2012. I still think we could do the hands and/or skull as a project before halloween as a simple and easy 1-day project. Of course that's subject to everyones input.

Thanks again Sharon for your hospitality, Electricity, and the opportunity to destroy a refridgerator. The Food was Fantastic and thanks for the Beers. Karen and Ken, I'm glad to see you both active again.

See you in August :)

Hey Greg,

Thanks again for the help with the welding. I do recall at one point feeling the top of my head hit with some splatter, but I don't see any bald spots (other than the usual thinning and receding going on) so maybe not.

But please don't encourage Sharon to post video from yesterday. I'm not sure I want any of the spots covering me being made public. The bikini apparently being the least of my worries. :(

As for August, don't we have a thread already started?

http://hauntforum.com/showthread.php?t=27316

I like the idea of a Boris hack, and of course I've been festering to get a Fester done, but I'm not sure I'm ready for either as Halloween bears down on us. It's not so much wanting to finish projects I've already started (goodness knows I've got them in spades!), but rather just where I want my yard headed this year.

As I've noted on a couple of occasions, I want to add some "height" to my display, so I want to work on an obelisk or two. So whatever the group decides on is fine, but I'll probably be going that route next month. Today I plan to work on the tombstones I did yesterday (maybe even finish my damn cemetery pillars I've been working on forever), and want to have all of that out of the way for the August 27 meeting to begin my obelisks. It might not be a fun project for everyone, so maybe my vote will sit on the sidelines.

Anyway, I'll repost part of this to the August thread. Cheers,

Rich

I was just reading Maxim magazine (yes, I read the articles, damn it!) and noticed Harbor Freight Tools had a 2-page coupon spread for their tool sale (the only other type of spread that could get me this excited) and saw they had a $60-off coupon on a welder that looks almost identical to to the one Ken brought with him to Sharon's.

The price for the welder is now $90 (reg. $150). If anyone was as stoked about welding as I was after that meeting you might want to check it out. I'll be hitting up the local HFT in North Bergen to pick one up (right across the parking lot from Wal-Mart for any northern New Jerseyans).

This particular welder is the 90 amp Chicago Welding Flux Wire Welder. The coupon is good for online purchases too and is valid until 11/19/11. And you're limited to buying just four (though I'm not sure I'm that into welding that I'd need more than one).

I imagine one of the benefits of ordering online is you might be able to avoid paying sales taxes (of course, I'm sure everyone would declare the purchase and the tax due when filing next year), but if you're like me in this regard as well, you'll want to get one now, today!

Rich

Just thought I'd let everyone know I finally picked up the welder (so much for that whole "need it now!" thing) from Harbor Freight Tools. Got the welder, mask, and a 3-piece welding outfit discounted so now I'm ready to start joining $h!t together. Can't wait!
