Mission accomplished. Cannon is done - weathering, cannon stand, and all. It was a fun project, and I am once again amazed at what can be done with Monster Mud!

Yeah, speaking of putting your eye out - I've already decided I'm hitching this thing up to an air cannon for next year. After seeing it as "just a prop" this year, I think that'll get a lot of people's attention. Thanks for the comments, folks.

Oh, I almost forgot - I meant to mention that I took the photos with a CANON digital camera :D

Simply awe struck. That things kicks some serious butt. An air cannon would be just the ticket.

OMG, that's freakin awesome!!!

I love the corroded patina sort of thing you did on the barrel.

Great job!

Man...that is impressive. Did you by chance...use your other Cannon to take pics of the construction?

is there a how-to forthcoming on that?

I'll answer both of the previous posts with this one. I didn't take pics because my cannon how-to was found at "www.donfoley.com/halloween". You can find a really nice set of plans there which cover my cannon, with the following changes: I stretched mine to a foot longer (mine is five feet, Don's was four). I have worked with mortar and thought it would be very heavy, plus it would be prone to cracking if the cannon was dropped. So, I substituted that wire "netting" (not chicken wire, but the stuff with little square openings about 3/8 inch by 3.8 in) and monster mud for the lathe and mortar. It turned out as smooth as metal after sanding. ALso, I HAD to have those rings around the barrel, so I used foam plumbing insulation, cut in half and wrapped around the barrel. The patina was done with a product I found at Dunne-Edwards paints, where your paint on a metallic coat and then apply this solution that actually does the same thing to the metal paint that sea air does to statues, etc. I can expound on any of this if it is not making sense.
