Hey All,
I just wanted to announce that Brewster Yard Haunt has been chosen to be featured in a program on HGTV! The show is actually a spinoff on another show called "What's With That House?", now called "What's With That Halloween House?".
The producers of the program saw my website and contacted me about setting up a shoot. After filling out a few legal forms and some back and forth phone calling, they've decided to come do a day/night shoot on this coming Tuesday (17th) .
I've been really busy trying to get all of my props into good working order and touched up before then. Normally, I have until the 30th, but I really wanted to have 95% of it done before they come. So far, so ghoul.
I'm not sure if they will be airing it for this season though, I will post more information as I get it...
Wish me luck!

That sounds so cool! Congrats on the exposure. I was hoping that one of the HGTV or TLC channels would do a program on Halloween decorating that wasn't the 'Martha Stewart' variety, but something along the lines of 'Monster Garage' meets 'Night of the Living Dead'. Be sure to let them know about this forum so they can look for other candidates.

~note to self: Create Halloween website.

Hey did I ever tell you that last year when I was searching online for all things Halloween I found your web site before I landed in Unpleasant Street? I still have it saved in my favorites right under Spookyblue and right above Unpleasant Street. I am not surprised that HGTV found you and wants you for their show. :D

Hey Boys and Ghouls,
Well aside from all of the rain (nonstop), the production company showed up and filmed everything (twice). The crew loved it, they were very nice and we all really had fun.
Despite the heavy rain, we had about 25 kids in costume come for some early ToTing, they loved being on camera and were very impressed and enthusiastic with our display (the kids are usually the hardest to please). The video crew spent about 7 hours at our Haunt, they didn't seem to know when the show would air, but made reference to the fact that there wasn't enough Halloween-related programming on their station.
I mentioned HF.com, the contests and you scary bunch, they really liked the idea of our little community.
Again, no idea when the show will air, I'm pretty sure that they will be filming other yards/houses and who knows how long editing takes.
The production crew actually told me that they were on their way to CT to film someone who had put out up all of their CHRISTMAS stuff for HGTV! Imagine that, Christmas in Oct? If this keeps up, the stores will be putting out their Christmas stuff before Halloween...
Anyway, I'll keep you posted. The show is "What's with that Halloween House?".
BTW, Thanks for all of you that checked out and liked my site, I'll be doing a rather large update pretty soon and I hope you can check it out.
happy haunting!

I had heard that they were going to film two other haunts for the show for their broadcast. Did they say who else was going to be on?

No sorry, DT. They seemed to elude to the fact that there would be other haunts featured, they didn't say who specifically or how many. Maybe posted on another board?

Brewster yard collects food - and attention - for Halloween

BREWSTER -A human rotisserie, a toxic swamp and skeletons coming out of the earth are just some of the elements that grace Dennis and Debra Saraceno's front lawn.

The couple, along with neighbors Laurie Manning and Kevin Kennedy, have put together the Brewster Yard Haunt, an elaborate homegrown display of spooky attractions on Wells Woods Lane that not only brings in hundreds of trick-or-treaters on Halloween but serves a local charity with its "Cans for Candy" food drive.

"We thought if we could have fun and help somebody at the same time, then all the better," said Manning, a property manager with Harvest Property Group. "This is a real positive for the village of Brewster."

What started out as a neighborhood haunted house some 20 years ago has grown into a spine-chilling array of sinister scenes complete with animatronic figures, eerie lighting effects and a ghoulish cast of characters. There's Dr. Demento who performs an autopsy in his laboratory, and monsters that may jump out at any turn.

"We started this for our son. Halloween was a great memory for me, and I wanted to pass that nostalgia on to him," said Debra Saraceno. "But now, thanks to Laurie and Kevin's contributions and enthusiasm, this has gone beyond our wildest dreams - or nightmares."

Indeed, the community project has caught the attention of producers on the Home and Garden Television show, "What's With That House?" Brewster Yard Haunt was selected as the featured home for an upcoming episode, "What's With That Haunted House?"

Crews were busy Tuesday filming the creepy spread. Producer/director Brian Ochrym said they found the Brewster residence on the Internet where it has been listed as one of the top haunted displays for homes.

"I think it's fabulous," said Ochrym. "The attention to detail is incredible."

Several local children in costume also took part in the filming.

"I like being on TV," said Hannah Fohr, 7, dressed as "The Corpse Bride." "I come here every day. The scariest part is when the garbage man pops out."

Preparations for the yard of terror take place all year, said Manning. Props, including tombstones and torture chambers, are all handmade, and it takes about two weeks to install the scary exhibit.

"I've never seen anything like it. It's so dramatic," said neighbor Tom Humstone. "I just like hanging out here."

This Halloween, the group is looking to outdo its charitable contributions that last year brought in 730 pounds of nonperishable foods and more than $200 in donations for the Putnam County Community Action Program's food pantry. This is the third year the display has benefited CAP.

The free event is open to all, but there is one catch.

"If you can make it to the door, then you get candy," Manning said.

But terrifying guests is not the group's only objective.

"It's about the response we get. We just keep growing every year and they really seem to enjoy it," said Kennedy, a graphics designer. "Our hard work makes it all worth it."

Hey, I think I found the other haunter that they are coming to their house to film. I talked to DragonLady Sue today and she said that they are coming out on Wed to film her house. But I know there is another house that they are filming but don't know who they are yet.
