I have received some requests to post how this tree was put together. This is another project from previous, it was made in June/July 2005.

Hopefully it all makes sense. Let me know if you need further info.

It's an incredible work of art DS. I enjoy your work everytime I see some of it. It would be great if you could include some captions with each pic in the how to, such as the paints you're using, and exactly how/what those leaves are, drying times in between steps, etc. Keep up the awesome work!

WOW that is soooooooo cool DS! What did you put on the chicken wire? I have never played with the stuff and it seems pretty easy.

Wow! Good looking, talented and twisted.

Nice piece, DeadSpider.

How strong of a structure does that make? If some one were to say, make one big enough to hang a writhing body from, and that person was able to anchor it well enough, would it need any more reinforcement to support the weight of a 50 lbs dummy, with maybe some counter balances on the other sides? Or would it need a sturdier structure inside of it?

well, its paper mache. It took quite some time, as I wanted it very thick and sturdy. I used packing paper and newspaper for this one, with a glue based mache slip. Its core and all the branches had 2 part polyurethane poured into the cavities, like what they do to boats. Its very sturdy, but this one would not support 50 lbs. it just wasnt designed to hold weight.

If you had a very strong skeletal structure underneath to hold/balance the weight, and then applied chicken wire and a mache "skin" over it, I can't see why that wouldn't work.
