Filter Forums

Is there a way I could filter forums so that when I search on new posts I could restrict that search to particular forums? I tried to do this in advanced search and select the forums I want, and find all new posts since last visit, but it also appears to want key workd and / or users. Advanced search also does save my preferences (maybe because I am not completing all fields?)

I could look into a hack to do this, but if it doesn't exist, then there's no way to do what you're asking.
