I recently had to make faux logs for our theatre production of Deathtrap. This is an easy way to do them, and I think it has real possibilities for led's etc inside to make portable "ember" logs without hiding extension cords or wires.

Nice job, SI...

I'd love to see a how to on burning embers... you gonna try that one next?

That's in my ideas of makings for this year. heh Of course, I still owe a how to on my previous make -up, but I've just been so busy...I have an audition and a quick shoot for today.

How did you actually make the feet here?

I know something else you could make with that big pink log of foam...

I can never seem to do it, but try to get your head out of the gutter and into the graveyard. ;-)

FE, the feet are made from ham-fat (says the overweight actor). LOL

Liking the faux logs, SI!

I had a faux fire last year, but it didn't measure up as it was (a bed of glowing coals). I think that a few of these logs with an ember effect will do the trick! It's also a great way to use up the largish scraps that I usually have left over from making tombstones :)

Great idea to use scraps for this G. We all have those left over and if we don't have anything for them, they only get thrown out!

Nice log!
How many of them did you go through durring the run of your show?

I did Death trap too a couple of years ago. I used a Jumbo swim noodle with a dowel center. The nice part was that after a couple of rehearsalls the dowel end wore through the foam so when I beat the other actor I would catch the floor at the same time & it gave a greaat whacking sound.

How did you handle the garrotte?
I soldered endcaps onto 5" lengths of pipe for the handle then ran picture wire from handle to handle just long enough for the other actor to hold his hands about 2' apart then tied a length of rope just loong enough to loop around my neck to the handles. That way the actor could pull apart on the handles as much as he wanted & coulden't strangle me. Durring the fight I'd reach back & grab both the rope & wire & he would shake me about a foot or 2 off the floor to end the strangulation.

Hi HC. :D

Always nice to meet another actor. We went through 3 logs. The first was too big for the actor to handle comfortably, but once we found the correct diameter and added the dowel, things went smooth sailing.

Nice idea with the garrote. I made ours by taking children's medicine syringes and using those for handles. I would fill those with "blood" and then attach between them fish airline tubing painted silver and with three holes burned into it. The actor would throw this around the neck, squeeze the syringes, and blood would flow.

oooohhh! I never thought about blood. Nice touch.

I still use the chest arrow for halloween to greet TOT'ers heh.

Man i gotta find another FUN murder mystery to be in. I'm geting ready to be in "any one of us", brit christie/comedy. but there's no fun gimmics. not even a gun to shoot.

Our starter pistol has come in handy many times for our productions. Right now our theatre is putting on Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. They're doing a nice job, too. I'm curently in a musical that another theare writes each year, and directing Peter Pan with an entire cast made up of of 40+ children soon to be auditioning in Aug and going up in Nov. I act in 6+ productions a year and always seem to be acting. :D
