I took photos during the construction of my 06 carved and routed quasi-realistic gravestones, and posted some along with descriptions in my blogcrypt. This is my 1st how-to, so please don't be unnecessarily cruel, but I would like constructive criticism for any future how-tos I may do, or in order to improve this one!

There are 2 parts: http://www.blogcrypt.com/gothikim/1833/Carvedrouted+gravestone%3A+a+%26quot%3Bhow+to%26qu ot%3B+of+sorts+%28carving+and+initial+painting%29. html

Thanks!

I used a rasp to knock down the hard edges of the couple that I have done.
It grates the foam like cheese. Wear a mask so you don't inhale the particles. You might try it on a scrap to see if you like that method. It may save you some time. You can always sand it also to finish it.

I think the how-to is good.

You are dedicated to you craft. Thanks for sharing the information with us.

Fang you!

Sorry. Couldn't help myself.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. This year's tombstones will be less carving intensive, and more about faux finishing to look like different kinds of stone. Ought to be interesting!

Great how-to!
Unbelievable detail.
I'm going to use your site as a guideline for my stones. I made tombstones out of plywood several years ago and was not pleased with them. They have been sitting in my garage for a very long time. I knew I saved them for a reason;)
