------TOTAL------ $44.65 ----

(this number is probably very high, because i didn't know how to pro rate most of the misc. products - so i just aimed high to be on the safe side)

BRIEF HOW TO

i started with the basic construction of the sign - screwing the boards together with a brace on the back - added legs and supports to keep it from tipping - same for the saw table

the saw was cut using a jigsaw from a piece of foam and screwed into the pvc endcap which was screwed into the table

the heads were fun to make - see my progress pics on the other posts on the forum - basically it was a skull that i cast in 2 part urethane foam from a bucky head and a face/head i cast in latex from a severed head prop - the 2 were joined with great stuff - latex and tissues and webs were built up to create muscles and other gore - painted with cheapo craft paints/airbrushed with watered down craft paint/wood stain added for color depth/blood splattered with cheap watered down craft paint/clear coated to make wet

the corpse was given some wood stain before i started to knock down the bright white of the bones - great stuff was added - and tissues/webs/and latex was used to build up after nylons were stretched across and coated with latex - marble was glued into place - painting technique was the same as the heads

----------------------------------------------

this was a fun project that was enjoyable to make and will be used in a butcher type room in this years haunt - hope you like it

I usually don't like gore in haunts cause I prefer to be scared and freaked out by atmosphere...but this gets two thumbs up in my book! Probably cause it has dark humor to it.

contrary to what this entry shows - haah - i am not a huge fan of blood/gore in haunts either - i think its overused - cliche - and people automatically think that because they smeared red paint on the wall its scary - but its not - the room that this is put in will most likely be the only room that there will be blood in - the way i see it, when i use it, i want it to be appropriate, tell a story, and create a HUGE shock factor - like OMG! this room was used to mutilate people! - thats why i try to show a "history" of wear and tear on the saw and the sign - its basically impossible to see, but there are many layers of different colors of blood that when you see it in person, it looks like it was used countless times and not just taken a brush and slapped it on in one minute (saw 3 is a great example - when they get back in the bathroom and theres blood all over the floor - you can TELL its old blood and that something happened there - not just slapped there for the gross effect)

sry - that got kinda long - but skeletonowls post was really accurate about how i feel about blood in a haunted house so i figured id chip in too - thanks guys! - riley

Oh now....when you put it that way.....maybe
Have you checked on any scented candles that smell like rotting flesh you could add for the smellofactor? Maybe some flies on lines swarming around and some maggots too! I mean, if you're gonna grose 'em out, might as well REALLY make them gag! (cough, cough, cough, gag, gag, splat!....clean up, isle 1)

That is sick, twisted, wrong and totally perfect for your haunt. What's the theme this year?

1031fan
07-03-2007, 02:35 PM
well i think im going to expand on the theme from last year - there will be several rooms that are like in a house type setting - then there will be a room where there is a secret passage/ "underground" passage that leads them to "forgotten" rooms where all of these monstrosities occur - still calling it "UNDERTAKINGS" i think that will stay my main title for every year - but change the subtitle each year - the whole them could even change down the road and undertakings would still fit i feel - so this year it might be UNDERTAKINGS...In the Beginning - well not that perse - but something added on to the title ya know - thoughts?

PumpkinHead
07-03-2007, 02:38 PM
very cool. I like the backwoods vibe that your props give off. Where in the haunt do you think this sign will fit in?

1031fan
07-03-2007, 02:43 PM
well funny you say that - cause i was thinkin of having like a little cabin/lean to type of shelter thing in the "underground" part of it - and this sign would be outfront of ot - kinda showing how the "monster" or whatever who lives in the shack makes a living - still deciding what the scare will be - prolly a slight distraction noise inside the shed thing - and then the butcher coming from behind - would that be pretty scary?

PumpkinHead
07-03-2007, 02:48 PM
Very creepy... I like the idea of changing the name each year to reflect what is going on. So last year it was undertakings, you have the abandoned house haunted by the souls of the tortured family etc. This year can go indepth with the story of the monster, say every 100 years he returns... That would explain why the house is a turn of last century style ( the last time the monster came wiping them all out ).

You could call it Undertakings: The Awakening...

bla bla bla....

1031fan
07-03-2007, 02:54 PM
thats a really good idea - i could possibly have in one of the last rooms in the "underground" section a scene where some sort of evil creature is being woken up or conjured up possibly?? to show its now the time for him to come back - - - i like the name awakening - was that used in a movie before? if not, i would def. use that - if it was, id like to maybe think of another cool, ominous type sounding word that basically has the same meaning and feel....but just original so no one ties it to a movie - any ideas? - thanks for the great post

PumpkinHead
07-03-2007, 03:03 PM
not sure if it was used in a movie, it sure does sound like it has been though.
Other words you could use:
Reawakening
resurection
the rising

You could also come up with a name for the monster. Something medieval sounding and use that say you use minotaur ( I know it isn't fiting but it is a name )

UNDERTAKINGS: Return of the Minotaur

That should work as long as you dont call the monster a Jedi...

1031fan
07-03-2007, 03:20 PM
haha - yeah - jedi is prolly not the best idea -

it DOES sound like its from a movie - guess ur just that good - haha

i do like the idea of coming up with a "creature" or somthing - i could possibly come up with a more generic term though - like "evil" or somethin so i didn't have to have someone play the part of the "creature" cause if i did use a name and there wasnt a really cool creature in the haunt - people would feel ripped of and be like HEY! where was the "-----"

something like ....

UNDERTAKINGS: Evil Reborn

but maybe not evil since its overused - darkness? i kinda like that - UNDERTAKINGS: Darkness Reborn???

PumpkinHead
07-03-2007, 03:44 PM
Or you could shell out the $8,000 and get a scarefactory slayer. I doubt people would ask where the monster was then!
