Here is a Scarecrow Head I just finished. It was made using a burlap sandbag purchased off eBay, soaking it in liquid starch, and forming it around a plastic skull. Once dry, the skull was removed. The eye sockets, shadowing, and aging were done with black and brown spray paint. Leather shoelaces were used for the head and mouth stitches, and a little dried grass was affixed for texture. Now onto the body.

Nice job, sounds like a quick and easy way to make a good looking scarecrow head.

Thanks guys!

On a related topic, I thought the picture above came out so nice, I uploaded it to my iStockphoto.com portfolio to sell. If anyone on the hauntforum thinks they might be able to use the image in any way (print literature, signs, haunt websites), let me know, I will send you a low or (very) high resolution version at NC.

Hey Mentalist...nice job. It's pics like these that make me want to try new things...but i think i'll have to add it to the list of next year's props since the clock is ticking rather fast these days.

Sickie Ickie,

I am thinking of mounting the completed scarecrow (covered in crows) on top of my shed just adjacent to the backyard cemetery. Should be complimentary to the scene. I'll take a pic if it works out.

I think it willlook great! I'm wondering how humidity/moisture will affect the starch though. (?)

That's a good question. I reinforced it with spray lacquer, so hopefully that will be enough protection. I won't be leaving it out in the rain though! :p

I will Moon Dog. It's not a big haunt by any means; just for a small neighborhood, but you are welcome to pop over (in Papillion).

Sweeeeet...... Sickie, that's a good point about the moisture effect. Maybe there's a coating of some type of sealer would do the trick
