Hello
I am new here but have a question. I have been looking at doing a few static props with moster mud but am having trouble finding burlap where I live. I may just be looking in the wrong places. I have looked at the local home depot in the garden area with no luck. Does any one have any idea where I might find burlap on the web cheap?

I ve never really looked for burlap but i would check with your local fabric store and they could either sell you some or point you in the right direction.

Wal-Mart sells burlap in the fabric department. But I got some at Lowes. It's with the weed barrier products. Three foot by 25 foot roll sells for about $7. I'm surprised you could not find it at Home Depot. They do carry it here in Virginia.
Look online at www.homedepot.com and search for item number 161833.

Thanks scarefx for the link. I was just at our local HD and asked several people and a few did not even know what burlap was!! I will check out the fabric places also. Thanks

I'm working on it. I hope they dont turn out too bad compared to the great stuff I am seeing the folks here showing off.

Make sure you get a good burlap. When making my first monster mud prop, I got burlap at the Home Depot, but we were careless when purchasing it. The holes in the burlap were bigger than we wanted, so we had to wait on finishing the prop until we got burlap that was tighter. We actually ended up just cutting burlap bags. These worked perfectly for the hood of our Angel of Death. Just a tip.

Thank you for the info. I just found what looks like the perfect burlap for mm projects at Wal-mart in the fabric section. Thanks for the heads up.

I've made two MM creatures but I didn't use burlap on either one. I'm such a cheapie :)
I used some old sheets I had lying around to make both of these:

Blackwidow, do those get as hard as burlap monster mud? Thats the only drawback I see to using sheets. My burlap monster mud dried really hard and sturdy.

I suppose the hardness depends on how many coats of MM you put on it. I put layer after layer of it (about 10) on with a paint brush to get the smooth finish. I don't remember how much of the mud I used but it was a lot. Both props are very hard and have held up well. I also coat mine with polyurethane to protect it from dampness that would probably add to the hardness too.
