View Full Version : Web Shooter question- is 40W powerful enough

I am making a web shooter, but I only have a 40W hot glue gun.

The one how-to I found (sorry, don't know the URL) used an 80W.

Has anyone used a 40W?

I'm going to try it myself, but without having an 80W (or hotter) on hand to compare, I'm not sure if the quality of my web will be bad because of inexperience or because of the low powered gun.

Cheers,
Kurt

I used an 80 watt for my shooter and it cools down pretty quickly. Not sure the 40 will hold up too well. If there's not enough heat, you get globs instead of webs.

It will work, but you'll spend a lot of time waiting for it to reheat... not really worth it when you can get an 80w at Michaels pretty cheap with their weekly newspaper coupon, or pick this one up at Northern Tool.

I wouldn't recommend it. GO for at least 80w or you'll spend all your time waiting for it to heat up again after a short use time.

I agree with the others.. I made a handful of 80 watters, they worked well but cant imagine using a 40 watt. I would say if ur gonna try and make one, then spend the couple of bucks on an 80 watt. even the cheap 80 watt craft store units seem not re-heat all that fast. just my opinion.

I tried a 40 watt when I couldn't find an 80 watt gun locally. It worked for about 10-15 seconds, then immediately began making large globs. Stick with 80 watt, or order a pre-made gun. I decided to go with a gun from Frighteners and it worked flawlessly.

Thanks for the feedback.

The 40 worked okay. I don't think I ran it long enough to make it glob up, but you reasoning is sound.

Fortunately, I have my 40% michaels coupon in my hand right now.

Off to the hobby store I go!

If you cannot find a 80 watt at michaels (havent to one in a while, I guess they still carry the surebonder) let me know, I have about a 1000 on hand.

I would really stay away from 40 watt webbers. 80 watt isnt that great either, especially if you live somewhere cool and will web outside.

Of course you could always order a gun from me too.

but don't listen to me, I don't know ANYTHING about cobwebbers :)
(5 models maybe?)
Or fire safe and food safe hot glue sticks.

Thanks Magic Taco Truck, you find as you keep using it that it doesn't cool down .
If you viewed the video on my site, you probably didn't notice it was shot outdoors, in January in Nebraska.

Corey: hahaha I hit your site last night. Of course I *want* the $500 model, but I'm a cheap bastard with 3yr old twin daughters and a third daughter coming in January. I only bought the 80W Powerbonder (or whatever it is called) because I had a 40% coupon for Michaels.

You do have some very nice quality looking products.
