One old broken weather vane, a small skull from bag of bones, and a crow

It won't be seen very well at night, but has got a lot of attention from neighbors and passerbys.

That is awsome! I love it!
If you can somehow get that lit up at night, SHOW IT OFF!
It is GREAT!

Thanks.

My lightning may back light it some, but it's at the corner of my graveyard and I've already got two blue floods for ambient lighting as well as a blue spot on the grim reaper. (see gallery link in sig for pics).

I live in a town home and I don't have a lot of yard room so I'll just have to see.

Maybe a light at the top corner of the garage shining back to the weather vane (it's about the same height and wouldn't shine toward the front blinding anyone)
Just a thought!

I'll have to look at that...for some silly reason I"ve been trying to figure out how to light it from the ground. You're right though the garage is about the same height. Just have to see what I've got for lighting....pretty much used everything with the graveyard, lightning effects, and maze in the garage.

I'm already way over budget...what's another extension cord and light fixture going to hurt....lol.

If I remember that weather vane was bought years ago through fingerhut or similar mail order catalog. Seems like it was only $30 or so. The top fell off and mom wanted to take it down to fix it anyway. I offered to fix it if she'd let me use it for the Halloween season.

Originally I was going to use 2 large bones from a bag of bones for the directional pieces and then run a dowel rod or piece of round stock through them, but this piece was just begging for the skull with crow and it took all of about 10 mins to throw together.

She may be getting a "NEW" weather vane instead of this one fixed.

My thoughts exactly. I could definitely get a cheap weathervane and do that.

Thanks for all the kudos. Was just trying to do something with some spare parts and think outside of the box.

The winds picked up quite a bit yesturday so I pulled the pole down.

I basically just attached the crow to the skull with the wires coming out of the feet, and then used a zip tie to secure the skull (there were 2 holes in the bottom and one i run the rod through and fed the cable tie through both and around the rod), that way it was still basically functional, just works backwards due to the crows wings....lol.

Anyway just as a FYI the crow I used really blows around with the wind so unless you want it to take flight secure it really well or build it so that it can easily be taken down if high winds are in your forecast.

That's such a nice final touch.
