Ok, so I couldn't resist buying these drop down spiders at iParty. I don't know what I'm going to do with them, but I saw that they are sound activated and then after they drop, they "climb" back up. Here's a couple photos of the motor - it looks like a cheapo science fair motor. Any ideas what I could do with these two spiders or how I could hack em up to use for something different??

Actually, I just got a spider thats the same if not similar. I guess it depends on what you have to work with. I thought that it would be cool to have a "spider room" with a bunch of webs and such, that has a bunch of the dropping spiders. So when the "spider king" claps, they all drop.

How heavy is the spider itself, not counting the motor works? I was thinking that you could use it with a light weight head for a guilotine type or head lopping prop that woud reset itself. Guide the string through eye screws or something so that it doesn't swing and use dim light or a timed light so that you don't give the trick away...

Haasmama - not a bad idea...it's relatively light weight. I'd say it doesn't weigh anymore than 3 pounds and that would be pushing it...

You might even be able to change the gears to speed up the return, depending on how much time between triggers you have. I have seen gears like that at the hobby shops around here. You might be able to rig two of them... One dropping the knife down that triggers the head to fall...
