Thanks everyone for the compliments! I thought for sure I would break a tooth off one of those gears while making it or it just wouldn't work.

The cool thing about this challenge is making you think out side the box to save money. While building other props, I can't think how many times I would just pay extra for something easier then to go the extra mile and make it from nothing.

I love this challenge!

Ingenious. Really and truly ingenious. I love the gears and the way you prevented the larger from flexing up and down. I am a big animated props maker, just because I like the challenge of figuring how to make them work and this really impresses me. Not really into the killer clowns, but I may steal your movement concept for a different type of prop.

Thanks Jaege! Cutting the gears was only half the battle. Getting them locked into place was key. If the small gear dug too deep it would bind up and freeze so I had to put the smaller wheel on the outside to stop that. If the small gear went too shallow it would skip so i needed the roller wheel on the bottom to hold it up. Glad it worked out but man.... Lol.

Thanks for all the compliments everyone.

So this weekend we had some friends over and one of them asked about it sitting in the garage. So I explained the whole $20 contest and yadda yadda.

"Oh, so does it pop up?"

-__- No. No, it does not, sorry. LOL

But it is an incredibly creepy "distractor" prop! Somebody gets mesmerized by the slow movement and it gives plenty of time for an actor to creep up behind. I built a 4' x 4' jack a few years ago, and not only was it significantly more expensive to build (probably about $300) the scissor lift turned out to be a bit of a mechanical nightmare.
