Classic Horror Movie Death Match Bout #8

531 Views 4 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Sinister
In this our last of the qualifying bouts, we have a squaring off against brilliant madmen. AIP throws in its bid for a shot at the title with The Abominable Dr. Phibes while Universal, who has so far managed to oust it's competition thus far for the most part, gives us one more offering with their take on the H.G. Wells classic, The Invisible Man.

Can invisibility hope to triumph over a grief stricken madman killing with the God sanctioned Plagues of Egypt, or will Anton Phibes fall before and enemy much like a virus that he cannot see? Get in and cast your vote to see who faces off against Elsa Lancaster in the quarterfinals.

Wow - I love and own both films and enjoy them both. However, I am an Invisible Man fanatic, and dressed as him 2 Halloweens ago. Claude Rains' performance (or should I say voice) is so effective, and his slow decent into madness is very effective. That's not to say that Vincent Price is not fantastic as Dr. Phibes, but the Invibile Man has always been one of my all time favories, and is my favorite Universal monster.

:xbones:
The Invisible Man is one of Universal's best, Dr Phibes is almost one of Vincent Price's best. Close, but Universal wins again.
Ain't no almost to anything about Phibes, DS. It IS Vincent Price's best film, or maybe The Haunted Palace is, but it hands down beats Universal's Claude Rains vehicle. Price gets my vote. Fer chrissakes, the next matches can't all be Universal, where's the fun in that?
Well, I'm going on and calling this. Phibes moves onto the quarter-finals where he will be facing off against Boltneck's Bride. The qualifying round is now over.
