Every week for the next several weeks, we here at HauntForum are going to highlight how to use the new features in a weekly Feature Spotlight. Continuing on from last week, we are now moving on to cover the new Friends system.

Following suit with such social networking sites as Facebook and MySpace, we at HauntForum now support a more robust Friends system. This system works very much the same as those found on other Social Networking sites, so if you have any sort of familiarity with those sites, you will pick up on this very easily.

Start out by going to your User CP.

In the column of links on the left hand side of the screen, click on Contacts and Friends under the "Networking" heading. This will show you a list of all of your current friends (if you have accepted any yet).

To add a new friend, scroll to the bottom of the Friends page and start typing a person's username in to the box found there. Once you have a few letters typed in, a list of users with a name containing those letters appears. As you type more complete usernames into that box, the narrower the list of results gets to be. Once you have typed in a full username or selected one from the list, click the "Add Friend" button. Pending approval from that user, you now have added a new friend!

"What can friends do?" You ask. Well, if you'd be so kind as to go to your profile (click "Quick Links" from the menu at the top of the page and select "Your Profile") you can see that your profile has had a dramatic overhaul. Among the changes is a more "MySpace" look and feel to it. Friends are displayed in a short list, which can be clicked to show all friends.

Friends can post messages to your "wall," which is a personal message board inside your profile.

Next week, I will be expanding on the information found in the new user profiles and teach everyone how to work with it more in-depth.
