I am building a prop out of fiberglass. It's going to be a large barrel-shaped sarcophagus that a snake-like creature will crawl out of. It's for a fan film.

I have the "plug" built up for one half already. It's built up out of wood and papier-mache. All the "pros" (meaning guys that sell chemicals at the plastic shop) say to cover this with gelcoat and cover it with wax before laying up.

I am not picky about texture; in fact some texture would be good, as long as the fiberglass doesn't stick to the plug. Can't I just wrap it in Saran wrap or the like to keep the resin from sticking?

For the second half, I want to be able to go back and put more papier-mache on the plug to change its profile.

Just thought you guys and ghouls would have some ideas for this.

Tomorrow, I'll have some pictures of what I have so far.

Try the saran wrap and fibreglass on a piece of scrap to see if the fibreglass will release from the wrap. If not, you'll have to use a release agent on the saran wrap.
