I will admit right up front that I didn't expect either film to make it to the finals. In no way does this confession mean that either movie is inferior in quality, it's just that they had some real stiff competition along the way. I already have my vote locked away inside my head, and I have a funny feeling that the outcome of this one will be rather one-sided. But as not to put a further jinx on this final round in the first ever Horror Movie Death Match competition, we ride into the moonrise with:

Hellraiser

vs.

Shaun of the Dead

Oooo .. this is so tough, Shaun of the Dead had decent gore mixed with great humor and I loved it. Hellraiser has ALWAYS been a favorite .. up until Inferno (lame). Pinhead is just plain awesome in my opinion .. and I love the Cenobites, especially Princess and Chatter. So, I guess my vote goes for Hellraiser .. even though it was a tough decision.

Kitten, I'm sorry to have to throw in the apple that upsets the cart, but I have to vote for Shaun of the Dead. Zombies are my all time favorite creatures that humans have to fight and try to eliminate. The only thing that comes close are Aliens and Werewolves. When you have someone who is basically a slacker that is called upon to be a hero, then you see all kinds of fireworks that might you might not have been privy to if there had been a seasoned Army general in charge. I think "Shaun" has a little something for everyone, be it horror, comedy, a just flat-out great story. You actually feel sorry for many of the characters that fall into unfortunate circumstances, but I don't think the same could be said for Hellraiser. While a spectacular film, the only character you had any feel for was Ashley Laurence's role of Kirsty Cotton. Everyone else, including Larry, you didn't really give a rat's ass about. Almost every main character in "Shaun" you really didn't want to see die. There were two exceptions, and they pretty much got what was coming to them.

Although I love Hellraiser, I think Shaun of the Dead is pretty much a better film altogether.

I'm actually very shocked by Sinister's vote. Really I am. But his vote is the same as mine, zombie movies, especially this one, have a very special place in my cold, dark heart. Hellraiser, while being an excellent film, is one that I have to be in just the right mood to sit down and watch. Shaun, on the other hand, is one of those movies I could watch any time. If it were on TV right now, I'd probably get up and watch it.

Shaun and gang not only take over The Winchester, but they are swiftly taking over this particular contest. The servants of Leviathan are lagging seriously behind. There are only a few days left of this round and after that, it is over except for the crying. So if you want to give Hellraiser another vote or two, the time is rapidly becoming limited.

Hellraiser is great movie. Having said that, I'm also a huge zombie movie fan. But if I was forced to watch the same movie everyday for a year I'd have to go with SHAUN OF THE DEAD...

Shaun of the Dead is up by five. Today, tomorrow and until whatever time I get up on Saturday, determines whther or not Hellraiser goes the way of all flesh. If you wish to stop its steady descent, get to the polls you all who haven't voted, or the slacker takes all.

You are an evil, evil man.

I have to agree though, I can watch Shaun every damn day and still enjoy it.
