Hospital shock for attack victim

A man who repeatedly stabbed another man on the head and body causing permanent disfigurement ended up in the same hospital ward as his victim.

The High Court in Glasgow was told how Stephen Spencer alerted hospital staff after his attacker, Christopher Derrik, 24, was placed in the next bed.
A nurse called police and Derrik was moved to another part of the Western Infirmary, in Glasgow.

In court, he admitted assault and was sentenced to three years in prison.
Niall McCluskey, prosecuting, said: "The accused was admitted to a surgical ward and placed in the next bed to the complainer. "Apparently the accused had been assaulted in a separate incident.

"Mr Spencer told a nurse that the man in the next bed was the one who had stabbed him."

Mr Spencer was attacked on 1 August at Thornwood Quadrant, Glasgow.
Derrik was originally charged with attempting to murder Mr Spencer but the Crown accepted his guilty plea to a reduced charge.
