I've decided to build a few brick wall panels to use as a background for photos. I decided not to attach them to anything permanent at this time because I'm still exploring my options.

First I marked off the brick and mortar lines

Then used an X-Acto knife to carve the mortar joints. Since I used three of the styrofoam panels, I made sure each panel would line up perfectly with the next.

Gave everything a layer of black latex

Then used gray paint for the mortar

Dry brushed dark and med brown paint and called it complete!

Cost breakdown:

Styrofoam garage door insulation panels $8.90 for 6 - used 3 $4.45
Black latex paint @ $16.99 gallon - used approx 1/5 can $3.40
1 bottle gray craft paint .50
1/2 bottle of dark and med brown craft paint .50

Total $8.85

Thank you Hairazor! I've been thinking all day about making a few more and using them to make a crypt next year. :D

Nice job, Lizzy! There’s always a use for brick panels in a haunt cemetery.

:jol:That is a very realistic looking brick wall. Nice paint work and carving skills and I know how laborious doing all that with an exacto knife must have been! Kudos to you! :D
