Hello everyone! I am getting geared up for the Mean Season and I am starting my schematics for this year’s projects. But I’m in need of some advice: For the past two years my wife and I have thrown a great Halloween party. We have well over 50 people (our house isn’t that big, so it was really crowded!) and everyone comes in costume. While the first year was a general ‘Halloween’ theme (carved pumpkins, tombstones, fog, etc.) last year we went with the Wizard of Oz theme (my wife is an Oz and Wicked lunatic). She dressed as the wicked Witch of the West (or Elphaba, for those of you in the ‘know’) and I dressed as a flying monkey. Our costumes rocked (I am now the greatest spokesperson for “InCharacter Costumes”). Our guests didn’t know there was a theme but quickly discovered what it was as they followed a Yellow brick road to our house and found the witch’s legs sticking from under our house, the “wicked witch” theme music on a loop, etc. I know, it is taking me forever, but hang in here with me…
This year we were considering dressing as Captain Hook and Peter Pan. If in fact we go with that idea, I want to go with a Pirate/Neverland (sans Michael Jackson) theme. So, I need some ideas. I’m thinking a ‘gangplank’ of sorts (with the rope handles, etc.) going up to our front door. You know… like something you would walk as you boarded a pirate ship). After that, I’m at a loss. We live in a 2 story colonial fronted by hedges, and I’m unsure if it is possible to expand on the ‘ship’ theme. I’m not quite that handy and only have a limited supply of tools (drills, circular saw, reciprocating saw, dremel, but no table saw, router or the like). And, to make it even more difficult, I would prefer to go with ‘budget’ projects. Yeah, so…this 20 page dissertation to say… “HELP!”
